I really like when someone commits a crime and then reacts with shock and dismay when they are punished for it. A good example would be that guy who beat up his girlfriend, and cried because his promising basketball career was ended by the three years in prison he got. There was also that guy who was a police officer (?) and used his power to rape women, particularly women of color. He cried when he got sentenced, and it was on his birthday, and his victims lined up outsde the courtroom to sing happy birthday as he was lead away. Does anyone have some of those I might not have seen? Maybe a complation?

I don't have anything new to offer, but thank you for reminding me about that cop. Watching him cry and snivel and keep bringing his head down to the table as he's sentenced to over 250 years in prison, and the attorneys just dutifully take notes, is really excellent and I forgot how much joy it brought me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEqPkvqhils

As janky as that take off ramp looks - it did the job. Kinda wish he had landed on the landing ramp, cause I have a sneaky suspicion it would have exploded. But it's not like the outcome would be much different. Just with added chunks of splintered wood.

Discord apparently just cleaned house and blew away a bunch of racist shitholes, apparently including banning users. This one is gonna be delicious. Edit: whoops that's an old link. As I said in another thread, the 1st applies to Twitter the same way it applies to hand-operated printing presses: the government can’t keep you from speaking via them. Or am I missing some way that the 1st is indeed special on Twitter vs any other privately owned channel?

The 1st amendment does not apply to people's privilege to use Twitter.Harvard Law School’s Noah Feldman posted:There’s no right to free speech on Twitter. The only rule is that Twitter Inc. gets to decide who speaks and listens—which is its right under the First Amendment It's not about the government stopping you from speaking on the platform, it's about the owners of the platform deciding they don't want you using it for hatespeech. Anyway. ALT-RIGHT: We're tough manly men alpha males! ALSO ALT-RIGHT: This 16-year-old boy is being mean to us on the internets! Please stop being mean to us so we can have our platform back!

It applies to Twitter and billboards equally. The 1st has never had anything to say owner of any private platform, so saying it doesn’t apply to Twitter because it has nothing to do with constraining private owners is like saying the 2nd has nothing to do with pistols because it doesn’t deal with people drawing pictures of them.

The right to free speech means that the government cannot arrest you for what you say. It doesn't mean that a private company owes you a platform just because you want one. It doesn't compel a private company to host your speech - in fact, that would be a breach of Twitter's first amendment rights. The government can't arrest you for what you say, nor can they make you say something you don't want to. A private company can kick whoever the gently caress it wants off their platform because they're a private company and owe you nothing.

But where the 1st doesn't apply is Twitter or the owner of the billboard refusing to let certain groups or people use their service. This isn't government regulation of speech, it's private discretion regarding the usage of their property.

If Twitter or Discord kick you out for being a Nazi, you haven't been silenced. You're perfectly welcome to find a nice street corner or public park to preach from. At least, until your face swells up too much for speech.

Memento posted:The right to free speech means that the government cannot arrest you for what you say. Yes, all of that is very simple. The post is saying “the 1st applies to Twitter even though it’s new”. Everything you say applies to every other privately owned channel in exactly the same way, per the post. Inco posted:But where the 1st doesn't apply is Twitter or the owner of the billboard refusing to let certain groups or people use their service. Given the current US government’s relationship to the press and the truth, the 1st amendment protections applied to Twitter communication are not irrelevant to discuss.

He is saying that twitter violates his constitutional rights by banning him. He is claiming the ability to use twitter is a fundamental right. It’s not spelled out that way, but it is always what he’s actually saying.
