I never cared for the Grudgeraker in the first game. Drakefires were just better in every conceivable way. But in this one it feels like the Grudge has no damage dropoff, unlimited target piercing, and the usual ridiculous damage. I shoot towards a stream of rats and they all die. I don't even want to try Ironbreaker I'm having so much fun with this loving thing.

I play Saltz and have noticed I get way fewer kills and damage than I did in V1 (I used to top the chart pretty regularly) but I've also noticed that in V2 I'm still the least likely to die. I've decided to lean into the role and stack as much Reduce Time to Pickup Downed Teammates as possible.

I want to look at someone and press E, and have them stand up.

Just heard another amazing exchange after someone (Bardin?) compliments the elf.

Elf: You should've seen me at Hogg's Bridge, I killed dozens.

Salzpyre: Two platoons disappeared at that bridge. Elf? ELF!

He sounds pretty pissed off.

iirc it also has lineman which means monks and berserkers are nothing and it just goes right through stormvermin

Ah, the specced into Inspire from Payday 2 build, all it's missing is "GET THE gently caress UP" when you do it.

Yup, it plows through armored stuff like a champ. I can actually kill specials at long range because it's so potent and just one or two pellets hitting per shot is enough.

The Grudgeraker is amazing, and is pretty much my main reason for not going full-on flamethrower dwarf 24/7. The doubled ammo reserve and increased reload is pretty much vital for using it as a real main weapon alongside your melee beatstick.

On a related note: I'd still like to try a 2H axe for my Dwarf. Do you guys think it's worth the scrap to build one, or should I just save my resources and stick to the 2H hammer for crowd control and light-attack murdering armored enemies?

Orv

I absolutely hate the 2H axe, poo poo attack patterns, poo poo multihit on heavy attacks, you don't need the extra armor piercing when a 2H hammer will take down a chaos warrior in four light attacks to the dome.

Yeah I just can't find a good use for the 2h axe as Bardin, the 2h hammer has great CC and is a great can opener to boot. It's a shame because I have a great 2h axe illusion that looks Slayer as gently caress.

toasterwarrior

Didn't the exact same issue happen in early VT1? Where the 2H axe was basically an inferior 2H hammer that didn't knock poo poo around if it failed to kill a target?

Part of why I eased up on my sienna doesn't feel as great is I'm still having amazing games. They feel great as I'm killing rats then I get to the win screen and the elf has 200 more kills than me.

Now that I've gotten used to the rhythm of the warhammer on Kruber, I'm really enjoying it. It's excellent for wave clear during hordes, it's good for telling Chaos champs or Stormvermin to gently caress off, and I can couple it with a coach gun to get rid of specials easily.

Loot in this game is so much better than how it was initially in VT1

So, what I thought was a jumping puzzle on the new map, 3 evenly spaced poles standing out next to a rock in a village, turned out not to be a jump puzzle but just some random terrain that let me trap myself inside a broken house with no way out.

I do not like the "puzzle" leading to one of the tomes or grimoires on the Nurgle map because it's got weird angles to drop into what feels like a 1 pixel wide ledge and if you gently caress it up, you fall 40 feet and lose all your health

The trick to that one is that you don't try and drop on it, you start a little bit back and carefully crawl forward at a slant toward the ledge, so the falling movement takes you the right way rather than banking you off the rocks. :eng101:

As a guy with a 700 goon discord with some awesome goons from many gaming communities, I can’t stress enough how important it is to join the Goonintide discord and party with people there.

That thing should be flying off the charts with groups of goons playing this game. If you aren’t using it, you need to get in.

It’s where you will always be able to avoid the publord garbage and you should never have to play with randoms again.

This is a pretty great community and I can tell since I joined the Goonintide discord about a month ago.

TLDR: Join the Goonintide discord and never look back. Link: https://discord.gg/n9fJQcj

but I'm worse than any pubbie you could ever get stuck with

I can't tear myself away from Bardin's Ranger subclass, but I will say his active seems like...not great. The smoke doesn't seem to stop them from seeing me, and mostly it just seems like it was designed with a sniper playstyle or something in mind, where you'd be able to just shoot from range for the duration without having to worry about being flanked. But I don't play that way so I just don't end up using it much. I imagine it'll be way better once I've got the talent that turns it into a 20 hp heal, but for now I use it once or twice a game at most.

I have found it useful for getting revives during a swarm. The smoke seems to be a aoe knock back and you can use it to stop a swarm at a choke point.

It will stop them from seeing you, but doesn't stop any that are currently swinging at you. It also doesn't stop you from getting hit if they swing at someone else nearby and you're in the way, such as when reviving someone who's getting wailed on. It will also drop if you move too far since you'll be out of the smoke bomb's range. It also boosts your damage done, so it's real good for popping before emptying as many gruderaker shells as you can into a rat ogre.

Once I learned that the whole point of tomes and grims is to consume your precious time (since Time = Health in Vermintide) I was a lot more okay with the design.

I feel like the grims are deliberately located in places where you can gently caress up because it wastes time. I kind of like that some of them are jumping puzzles because it suggest you can eventually overcome the wasted time with sufficient skill*.

*Skill in this case being, 'rote memorization of exactly when to press the jump button'.

So I immediately ran into a bug during the tutorial. At the point where it teaches you to dodge there was no input that would work. I have my keys set so I only have dodge-only and jump-only assigned separately and the jump/dodge combination unassigned and dodging wouldn't work. I went into the menu and none of the options would work either, couldn't even exit the game and had to force the program to close in task manager.

Are you 100% sure? Because my group had a person had a similar reaction when they made it into a broken house in that way and it turned out to have a really dark hole which dropped into a room with something good inside.

I feel that some are okay in this, such as the second grim in Empire in flames, but others are just frustrating in a bad way. The first tomes in empire in flames and festering grounds in particular are annoying; they seem to be just mashing the jump button against geometry until the game decides to let you succeed.

It increases your damage? I didn't know that. As for the revive, I think it would be clutch as hell but you can basically guarantee revives with block anyway.

Anyway, I don't mind that the active is a bit clunky for my playstyle. Grudgeraker plus Last Resort feels so good that I'm willing to give up a really impactful active in exchange for this consistently devastating playstyle.
