Looks like the square rubber mats we had. Most likely, because it's not scuffed like concrete would be under the end of the seesaw.

My stupid goddamn state legislature. They tried to be petty assholes and shaft striking teachers on a demanded pay raise, but accidentally passed a bill giving them the raise they wanted. Now the state senate is scrambling to see if there's some way to take it back.

It might be going "Oh no please don't hurt me again, I'm a good boy, see how I'm wagging my tail???"

I had a really placid cat that hated being picked up but it'd still start purring if you grabbed it, if you didn't pay careful attention to its body language you'd assume it was happy but it was really going "Ha ha we're all good friends right? Oh poo poo."

Why WalMart failed in Germany
  • Cultural Hubris
The company gave the job of masterminding Wal-Mart Germany to an American who didn’t speak a word of German.

  • Economic Hubris
You can’t sell below cost in the Eurozone countries just to run your competition out of business. You can’t abuse the workforce with “falling wages” and expect the government to subsidize your slave-wage workforce with food stamps and healthcare just to make ONE corporation rich at the expense of the society at large. Playing by the same rules as everybody else proved FATAL for Walmart here in Germany.

Didn't they also go to Korea with stores where the shelving was too high up for normal Koreans?

e: Not that that was why they failed in Korea. But still a pretty stupid thing to do.

One of my favorite anecdotes about just how little Walmart knew about the German market isn't mentioned in your links:
Keeping with the theme of putting an American in charge, Walmart used a lot American product buyers to decide what would be sold in the stores.
An American product buyer was in charge of sourcing pillow cases and filled the shelves with "standard" sized pillow cases.
Standard size American pillows cases are 50 cm x 76 cm
German pillows are 80 cm × 80 cm

Pretty sure there's been two or three by now.

I think the last one got dumped full of communist propaganda videos until they went into accounts-only viewing mode, then locked new account generation, and I'd imagine shut down not long after.

Unclear. But I'm also American so have no idea how big 80cm actually is. It sounds like a lot because 80 is a kinda big number. Do Germans just sleep with big square mattresses under their heads? We may never truly know.

Picture how wide your comfortable American pillow is. Now imagine that it is also that same measure in height.

Then add a one‐inch border on top of that. :wtf:
