Alamo Drafthouse did an OT marathon a couple of years ago and I went to that and it was also quite loving good, albeit long rear end hell. I walked out of there sore and drunk and after being in darkness/inside all day and going into the 7pm summer daylight my brain was mush. Always see the OT in theaters when possible

1997 Jabba just doesn't even resemble ROTJ Jabba at all. Worse resemblance than the original TPM Yoda puppet. TPM Jabba and the 00s reup of ANH Jabba at least look like Jabba, just CGI

I think watching them in release order is better, but Empire doesn’t really have a surprise to ruin these days, unless the person watching it has had literally no contact with the outside world or pop culture from the last few decades.

There's some thinkpiece out there that claims the ideal way to introduce new people to Star Wars is to show them ANH and ESB to preserve the father reveal, and then watch AOTC and ROTS to elaborate on the relationship between Obi-Wan and Vader and contextualize the reveal in ESB, and then close out with ROTJ. TPM is left out because a lot of it is completely superfluous to the greater narrative. I still think that if I have a kid I'll show them in release order, but the argument above does have some credence.

I'm pondering doing TPM first with my son, since he's still young enough to really like it, and that makes the idea that Luke is that Anakin kid's son build up the idea that he went on to be a great hero without spoiling ESB.

Has anyone seen an “unspoiled” reaction to Sheev/Sidious/Emperor reveal? It was obvious at the time but we’d all been inundated with decades of “Emperor Palpatine” merch. At no point does The Emperor actually get called Palpatine so I could see it working if you did 451236.

They show enough of the two for it to be fairly obvious in episode one, and it ends with a line from Yoda asking "But which one was killed, the master, or the apprentice?" while panning directly over palpatine's face. I can never find it but there’s a pretty good blog post from some guy running through he machete order with his 6-7 year old sons. Feel like it’s been posted in these threads a few times. Also their only exposure to Star Wars had been the Clone Wars cartoon so they all thought of Anakin as this cool hero and were devastated at the Vader turn.

Did Mark finally change his stance on beard. He used to complain about his contractually obligated bear and the spoiler hounds were good at tracking his on-set time based on his face. He seems to wear it all the time now though. I care mostly because literally the only thing that makes me excited for IX is Ghost Luke haunting/trolling Benjamin Solo

I like how we're pretending that there's any spoilers to save from Star Wars considering its ubiquity in popular culture over the last forty years. My kids (if that's ever even a thing) will see Star Wars the way I saw Star Wars. Probably once or twice a year, usually as a marathon on major holidays from infancy because it's fun to watch Star Wars, especially if you're an adult and having to watch over small children for extended periods of time.

I've seen some people argue for Machete Order, but omitting episode 1 entirely. Offhand I can't think of anything that you would really lose from TPM, other than maybe the kid ask about what happened to episode 1. If you have kids that are already familiar with the Clone Wars cartoons that might not be a bad idea. I don't have kids, so I don't know if it would just be too confusing to have another version of Anakin to think about (though that's just as likely dependent on the maturity of the kid).

If you show someone TPM and they hate it then you might not get them to watch three more movies or skip to the one from the seventies. If you show someone ANH and they hate it then Star Wars just isn't their thing and you can move on. How many movies you know you can force on them should be considered.
