It's almost like the talent that knows how to get over is better at doing it themselves than Vince, Road Dogg and the WWE writing staff.

I dunno about a quarter, but yeah, he definitely wouldn't be as over as he is. But he's also killed it since joining Bullet Club, especially since he started feuding with Ibushi. Bullet Club has gotten him way more over than he would be otherwise, but it's also been a really good fit. His emoting when he turned on Kenny in Sapporo was just  I keep going back and watching it just to see that psycho laugh of his.

Cody is the perfect heel because he's pretty much everything I like about a wrestler yet somehow manages to constantly piss me off. He can be kinda bleh in the ring, sometimes on purpose.

Plus he clearly got out of shape fast and didn't really seem to be putting in the effort. Plus he apparently had some really bad booking ideas. In the end he shouldn't be evidence that you fail if you leave WWE, just that you don't automatically succeed if you make all the wrong moves. Cody kind of did it perfectly. He openly advertised his dream list of all the hottest acts in wrestling and then jumped onto the hottest act while adding his own unique aspect to it. He's not great but he's made some good decisions in how to market himself and make himself stand out. Although obviously his family legacy helped.
