Ah poo poo a second offer has hit the inbox. I think I might take it. Slightly shorter drive (10-15 minutes) on a commute I was dreading (30-45 minimum) and an actual 401k with 5% matching after a year is big in my eyes. 7k less pay but I think I'd be happier long term. Supposedly bonuses and profit sharing. Rescinding an accepted offer is going to suck.

I don't think there's a concept of a switchport mode on a ProCurve - if you tag stuff onto the port then it's a trunk. If you want a port to have every VLAN tagged including VLANs added in the future then I am not sure that's possible like it is with IOS.

Sort of this; it's when you untag a port that it becomes a trunk. If you actually make a "trunk" you've just created an LACP group (etherchannel on Cisco I think?). As for tagging every VLAN, I think you just have to add it manually every time you add a new one; I'm not 100% sure of this though.

An HP trunk group can either be an LACP link aggregate (shows as Dyn) or a statically defined LAG where the switch on each side just assumes the other is properly configured and load balances (shows as Trk). The second option is equivalent to a Cisco port channel with the mode set to on. The first is a Cisco port channel with the mode set to active or passive.

This is the first week on my new job, things I have learned so far: ServiceNow is a powerful, unwieldy monster. They take information security seriously here: Leaving your screen unlocked, printing out confidential poo poo and leaving on your desk? One friendly reminder and after that straight up disciplinary action. Also a nice touch, only managers can book meeting rooms, so far less issues with meeting room availability. Only downside so far is the lack of plants in the office, I wonder if I can get a small bonsai tree for my desk here. Our parent company is Japanese so I'm sure they would appreciate it. Telling people to lock their computers when they step away is hardly "baiting users into disciplinary action." I set ours to 5 minutes. The people who are going to police locked screens that closely are going to the kind of micro-managers I am not going to want to work with or for. A culture that encourages each other to mind their own loving business and staying off each others computers is more my jam. Deal with social issues when they pop up and then investigate if you need to. I refuse to have a disciplinary meeting with an employee because he forgot to windows + L the day before and someone with nothing to better to do saw it.

I did a stint at the Aussie Department of Defence. They don't enforce 1 minute screensavers because that decreases productivity and is super loving annoying. We learned very quickly to lock our computers. Not locking and leaving your workstation is a Security Breach. 3 breaches and you're fired.
