Though I think the PS4/XBox versions got a physical release as well so I'm not sure what you'd do about that if you're playing off a disc. Yeah you're right, when I heard "Switch" I thought it would be on cartridge and that the save would be on the cartridge's SRAM. Turns out Switch cartridges don't even support writable memory.  Also, that would be a little too mean I think. Especially for Nintendo.

I can't imagine that they'd make a new Smash from scratch rather than just porting the Wii U version, especially given how long it takes Sakurai to recover from making these and how long he insists on taking.

The biggest evidence that it might be new is that the title treatment is fairly different; same font but from a different angle and with the cross etched into it.

I mean, I never had a WiiU and I bought Mario Kart on Switch and will be buying Hyrule Warriors when it comes out, so I'll probably end up picking up Smash 4.5 if that's what it ends up being.
