i have never figured out why uno is so goddamned popular it's literally crazy eights except you have to have a special deck of cards instead of regular cards just play crazy eights

sure it does, you just add house rules. when i was a kid the rules were that jacks make the next person skip a turn, 2s make you pick up two, and the queen of spades makes you pick up 5. also you play with two decks shuffled together, and you do a countdown so that once you run out of cards you draw seven more and sevens are now your wild card, then when you run out of those you draw six more, and so on until the first person out is the champion of the universe. great way to spend rainy days before smartphones

It was literally a standard deck of cards with a bit of rules printed on the special cards, but it was absolutely useless for anything but Crazy Eights because the eights didn't have a suit.

You intentionally build up a massive hand, then drop that card and say "Happy Anniversary! Uno!" and give them all but one of the cards in your hand. This can end up making a comical pile of cards in the hand of the last person to go in a round if the other players have one of the Anniversary cards as well.
