We had already did far more important and trustworthy things with each other (buying a house and sharing bank accounts) so marriage was nothing. imagine our surprise when we learned that the whole name change thing wasn't included in marriage, it's a totally separate thing and it baffled both of us as to why people do it, poo poo is a pain in the rear end!

I'm all for ripping on Rhyno because it's fun, easy, and good for the soul, but I'll never understand statements like these. What exactly is marriage vs. being together?

I get that I'm far from a traditional sort of guy and an usually surprised when people just say things (women love to shop/how about that sports game/millenials :argh:) until I remember that I'm the odd one out, but marriage is nothing. It's a business contract, a legal thing, it's a for-law statement that has nothing at all to do with ~love~ or emotion or anything of the sort. When I see people go 'heh marriage is super cereal' I'm confused every time. Then again I'm not very traditional and that might be everything.

If I were to respond to my above statement I'd probably smuggly go "HEH U DON'T EVEN KNOW" and then I'd shrug and just mumble something about old people, probably. :) :) :)

Basically, yes, it should be just a formality, but for whatever reason, having the relationship officialized/formalized in some way sometimes changes a person's perspective on it, not always for the better. It represents a commitment, now public and official, which just fucks some people up. It's all in the head, basically.

Wife and I have been married for 10 years this September, and together for 16 total minus a few months in the beginning years.

All marriage really does is cement the fact that there isn't an easy out, and encourages you to work poo poo out. Our marriage hasn't been perfect, and we've fought bad enough for long enough that separation and divorce became an option, but it's still worth it.

Our biggest issue was for the beginning 6 years of our marriage, I was gone constantly. You can't learn how to deal with one another when one person is gone for 10 months a year. Once we were more stable is when poo poo got super rough, but we worked it out because we both really do want to be together and we learned how to change and get better.

It's not even like we have kids to cement it, we really are just best friends with a bigger commitment.

I found a file recovery tool that will keep trying, so is much more successful, and I don't have to drag and drop a bunch of times. It retries automatically, and when that times out, I can wait until the drive shows up in Explorer again and manually click retry. Annoying, but less so.The main annoyance is the 200 GB of crap. Half of it's in Japanese, so I can't really tell what's important, either. The entire Ghost in the Shell anime series wasn't, though. Looks like there's the entire manga series of Attack On Titan, too. All in Japanese, though, or I would have snagged them, myself (user is actually Japanese). Also, I already have most of GiTS.

I'd have tried that if I were aware of it when I was there. I was desperately trying to avoid eating at places that I could go to at home. First dinner I had there was a soul food place, and it made me happy. Also had Pho multiple times, since my wife is meh on that, but I discovered I really like it. Couple of local burger places. Checked out In N Out in its native land. Really liked the Ugly Pie Company. Various other places. Nice when the company is paying.

edit: my 20-year anniversary is this year, and we were together 5 years before that. I have no idea how she puts up with me, let alone for 25 years.

gddrescue, yo. Also, NTFS drives mounted in linux via NTFS-3G just ignore file permissions (at least if you're root, as of a few years ago), so that is another approach to grabbing stuff. But I still don't like spending any time operating a failing drive except whatever is necessary to image it somewhere else. And gddrescue is the best for that, because it can just keep trying blocks until it has success, and skipping bad blocks to come around for them later, instead of aborting the whole thing when it runs into an issue like explorer does.

The fish/seafood thing I don't really get. Unless you've got an allergy, there's so many ways to serve fish with such a large variety of flavors and textures that I can't imagine you couldn't stand all of them without being an incredibly picky eater, in which case you're missing out. More fish for the rest of us I guess.

Plus trying weird things is one of the great things about travel, your favorites were once strange and new to you at some point.

In any case, it's Ryno's honeymoon, they're entitled to enjoy it however they like, but a good ribbing is always fun.

I want to like fish and I've tried a lot of fish prepared a lot of different ways in various locations but it always has the same overpowering taste of stagnant pond water. The only exceptions so far are battered and fried white fish since the dominant flavor is fried batter with only a hint of pond water and I'm also ok with Costco's canned tuna. Seafood is basically the only food I don't enjoy so I wouldn't consider myself an incredibly picky eater.

We cook and bake a lot, go to museums and concerts and stuff, love many of the same TV shows, the sex is AMAZING, and she's 100% supportive of me spending a lot of time with my friends without her having to come along. We've had a few minor bumps, but we're both very clear that open communication is the best way to solve them. She's under a lot of stress in relation to her PhD work, and because she's finding it very hard to find new friends here in Denmark, so that is the reason for some of the misunderstandings.

I think we're doing quite well, I'm just a little concerned with all the stories of awesome relationships that turned sour.

My only experience at a Del Taco is trying to get a bite there while on shift between calls and a 2 year old at a family's table just completely swan-diving off their chair and landing on the floor head-first. The dad grabbed the child by the ankle and picked them up upside-down and yelled "WELL LOOK AT WHAT YOU DID YOU LITTLE rear end in a top hat!" and then thankfully my radio toned a call out so we could escape that situation, even before the food came.
