R3-A2 on Fenn is just there for the Expertise counter. If you don't run into an Expertise carrier, you don't trigger the droid. Or maybe you still use R3-A2 if it means double stressing the Inquisitor or any other PTL carrier, or other pilots that depend on not being stressed (the solution to the oppressive TIE Striker: Countdown meta). I like FAA more because re-positioning is fun and helpful, but R3-A2 is a better tool. Edit: The guy in that crazy Facebook post was the subject of discussion in the XWing slack channel this morning. Some of the podcasts have some great salt to listen to. The latest Mynock one has them talking to the first and second place winners of a regional and one of the hosts straight called one of their lists “bullshit” at how it abuses the game mechanics and that it’s not “X-Wing”.

The biggest "bullshit" list to me right now is Fenn/Ghost, followed by 3-4 Wookiees. Those games are just so incredibly grindy and it's hard to make progress.

I flew Kanan/Biggs for a long time and basically just never triggered Kanan's ability because that always felt like the piece that people hated the most. So Ghost/Fenn was a natural fit for me, and I really like flying it, but I understand why people don't like flying against it. I wish there was an element of the list I could similarly "turn off" and have it still be effective, while also not frustrating people. Sometimes I'll "forget" to trigger Sensor Jammer, but at 0 agility eventually I'll need to use it to stay ahead in the damage race. I wonder if people get less annoyed playing against the Synced Turret versions. I much prefer to fight against that Kanan/Biggs version because there's valid counterplay. Range 3 alpha strikes, aces who can get behind it and trail at range 3 (avoiding the boost to r1/2), etc. It's still an oppressive list, but it's way less frustrating than the Fenn/Lothal version.

Worst part of Ghost/Fenn for me is the Maul/Ezra combo. 4/5 die attack with a reroll that surely will have an eyeball to turn into a crit every dang shot. Being able to use it toss a stress when it hits then use it again for the first TLT shot then use Ezra again for the second TLT shot then clear the stress....It's just to dang accurate for no risk. Wait a minute... can you use Ezra on both TLT shots if stressed? I lost a match to it last night when I called the first engagement wrong. Went down like a prom dress. B-Wing E2 should be a title, then there’s a B-Wing only mod that allows you to fire your lasers and ion cannon as one shot with damage and ion token, taking a weapons disabled token in return. A-Wing title that lets you boost and barrel roll as a combined action. Then a modification to remove missiles to upgrade your lasers one red die.

I tried out something similar to this last weekend, and had some success. I tweaked it a little to remove some deadweight. It's what I'm likely flying in the Open and Adepticon. Anyone have comments? 99 points PILOTS Rho Squadron Veteran (31) x 2 Alpha-class Star Wing (21), Deadeye (1), Extra Munitions (2), Harpoon Missiles (4), Guidance Chips (0), Cruise Missiles (3) “Quickdraw” (37) Special Forces TIE (29), Veteran Instincts (1), Fire-Control System (2), Cruise Missiles (3), Special Ops Training (0), Lightweight Frame (2) The plan is to hit whatever looks the most dangerous with 3 cruise missiles on the joust, then Harpoon things until they die or I do, with QD sniping at whatever he can hit.

I ended up going 2-2 with the Incredible Bulk last night, and did not make the graduated swiss rounds today. The first game I lost was my fault. The second game I lost was the worst string of luck I've ever had in this game. Game 1 vs Miranda (3PO/Harpoon/Bomblet), Low(Rey/Tactician), and Stress Ezra I felt really good going into this. The fight started on turn 2 so he couldn't build up a focus bank with Rey on Lowhhrick. He wasted his harpoons on the Bomber coming in (it was the only one in arc/range, on purpose that round). It didn't die, and I managed to jam up his entire list really bad. That's when I made the mistake that cost me the game. I somehow missed that Lowhhrick had Selflessness. His Miranda was down to 7hp and was at range 1 of my entire list. I went for the kill shot...and he pulled it to Low. I could have just wiped Low instead. Miranda was in a place where she literally could not have escaped the kill box the next round. To make things worse, we BOTH hosed up how Selflessness works. We thought it pulled over all the damage. It's just hits. Miranda would have had both weapons failure AND structural damage, dropping her defense and offense to near nothing. Doing EITHER thing right would have won me the game. But instead Miranda got away and eventually won. I'd like to point out the guy was genuinely a cool guy and when I went back later to talk about Selflessness he was appropriately horrified and contrite. I don't feel he deliberately hosed it up. Despite losing, this was the most interesting and fun game of the night. Game 2 vs Expertise Sloop Rey and an old-school PS2 K-Wing bomber He placed his ships in opposite corners. He feinted with the K-Wing (which was directly across from my list) and went fast with Rey. I just cut to the left and dogpiled Rey. Ended up with my whole list behind her, chasing her around while the K-Wing faffed about. This was a decisive win for the Bulk. The moment I chased Rey into a corner without sloop options due to rocks/whatever, I knew I had it. Game 3 vs Kanan (Maul Ezra, but no Engine) and Fenn I lost this, despite doing nothing wrong. I made him split his fire repeatedly. I had Kanan down to 3 hp on the third turn. He LITERALLY never got to use his ability the entire game. He was either bumped or stressed. I still had a full ghost, a half ghost, and a nearly full bomber at this point. Then I rolled blank after blank after blank. On every roll. Repeatedly. At best I'd get 1 hit, which would get sensor jammered. It was infuriating. He managed to kill both ghosts without taking even a single point of damage after that. I poo poo you not when I say I did ZERO damage after the point he got down to 3hp. I had a turn when I had Kanan, at range 1, in arch of both my ghosts, who had target locks, and Kanan was without any tokens at all...and did zero damage. I attacked at least 8 times before my second ghost died. Zero damage. He, on the other hand, was rolling crits like mad. I took 4 direct hits that game. I would have won this had I kept the accuracy corrector. Or if, you know, I'd managed to roll more than one hit on those attacks. Game 4 vs Dengar (Expertise, 4-LOM) and Asajj (Expertise, Latts) I was really down after that last game, and this one started off just as bad. Round 1, I had Asajj in a perfect killbox. No glitterstim or lone wolf here, just latts (and I baffled the stress because gently caress that). I did...zero damage with 10 dice thrown at her. Pursuing her would have turned my back to Dengar (and I probably would have only had a single shot due to positioning), so I turned my attention to Dengar. In two rounds, I did two damage to him, despite throwing my entire list his way. However, I'd like to shout out to this guy named CQ. He is literally the friendliest, most happiest dude in X-Wing. If you play anywhere within driving distance of Austin, you've probably met him. He talks to everyone, and is the jolliest, most amazing person ever. Despite having awful luck in round 3, and bad luck in the first half of this game, I was still enjoying it because CQ is just awesome. Then my dice luck finally turned, and Dengar was vaporized a round or two later. All my ships were still on the board, but one ghost had 1hp left. I managed to keep that fucker alive for like four rounds by keeping it range 3, obstructed, with an evade token, while the bomber and other ghost attacked Asajj. Eventually I killed her. I'd lost half the bomber, half a ghost, and the other ghost completely. It was a close game. Final thoughts I shouldn't have lost that first game. That was on me. I shouldn't have lost that third game. That was literally the worst string of luck I'd ever had in this game, ever. I really wish there was another Regional or similar large tournament near me so I could test it out again in a serious competitive environment.
