I recently finished an electronic album, that I also turned into a video collage. I don't have the whole thing up because I'm trying to organize a release viewing in NYC later this month or next, but I have a preview here and one full track here.

Yeah this is a great example of what I was looking for earlier when I mentioned a cross between synth/ambient and cinematic score. It's got those nice crescendos and "moments" (for lack of a better description). Actually "Lung" is on my playlist I linked too.

It helps to realize that he's not "doing a voice," he's just the most british motherfucker on the planet. listen to the dude's speaking voice, it's wild:

The funny part of that is Bob Dylan DOES do a voice and is hailed as one of the greatest rock songwriters ever, if not the very best.. Not that this has anything to do with this conversation but it makes me think of it.

Two of the original members of The Naked and Famous left the band which is kind of a bummer since I loved Simple Forms. It's basically down to Alisa and Thom now.

that's more because of his lyrics, and in spite of his voice rather than because of it.

It's so good. I can't decide if my favourite track after like a half dozen listens is The Clearing or Chains, but the whole thing is incredible.

I legit can't stop listening to this album. I'd never heard of Young Fathers before Friday and now I'm fully hooked. The new album is one of those albums I couldn't explain at all because every song feels like a different genre but it's so good.

New Gwenno album is pretty great:

RIYL: Broadcast, Stereolab...

She was in The Pipettes. This is her second great album. This one's entirely in Cornish; the last one was in Welsh. The Pipettes weren't great, but Rose and Gwenno have been making great music.

Obviously, you're not a golfer.
so even as a completely unapologetic decemberists fanboy... is it me or is this new record... not very good?

the lyrics are really terrible. some people dont like their epic 15 minute narratives about civil war lovers or vengeful forest gods... but goddamn it those were interesting.

instead this record offers such nuggets as "everything is awful" and "ive been waiting all my life" repeated 10 times.

I really like Gwenno. The new album didn't blow me away the same way that Y Dydd Olaf did, but I'm glad she's still making this kind of music. Hopefully she tours the US like she did in 2016.

Yeah I gave it a stream this morning and it wasn't great. Might be room for growth but at this point I have no problem overlooking entire discs. I hardly spin King is Dead.

It will definitely take a few listens to see if they grow on me. I mean I appreciate they're trying some new things, but I'm not really convinced they've pulled it off. I absolutely adored the production on the last album, so its a bit disappointing that with a new producer that seems like a step backwards too. But there's enough good stuff in there too it seems on first couple of listen and I'm excited to hear the bonus tracks too. I thought 'Traveling On' was stiff not to make the final album so hopefully that's as good as it was live.
