Pochettino appears to have done something with it at Spurs, Ryan Mason is pretty likely to join up the youth coaching staff. Spurs also rolled out a youth coaching initiative, so presumably the door is open to anyone who is interested. Jan Vertonghen gets brought up fairly often in interviews if someone asks about future coaches among the first team. In other news, Kane is out through at least the Chelsea game, hopefully back in time for either Stoke or Man City.

I remember listening to a podcast a while back about how the league has a significant number of good assistant managers/senior coaches with absolutely no desire to move above that level. If you've not got millions from a playing career to fall back on there's little point - assistants get paid well, have decent job security, no press attention and can work in the same place for years.

Carrick is probably joining the coaching staff from next year. Various other former players have also been part of the coaching staff to varying degrees of success.
