drat that cast had me interested before the interesting premise/cinematography+editing around the premise. Tessa Thompson, Lakeith Stanfield, Armie Hammer, Terry Crews, Steve Yuen? Yea boy.

I'm sure I'll like it fine enough, but that's an...interesting casting for Dumbledore, I have to say. At least the New York characters from the first movie is in this, which I like a lot, I thought they were charming and fun.

I wonder, especially with the "Wizarding World" branding they're going with, why they bothered to hold on to "Fantastic Beasts" in the title

Rather than making "Fantastic Beasts" a series title, the second one should have been called Fantastic Beasts and How to Catch Them, since it seems to be about Newt and Dumbledore chasing Grindelwald.

morestuff posted:I wonder, especially with the "Wizarding World" branding they're going with, why they bothered to hold on to "Fantastic Beasts" in the title Probably because this is a direct sequel to Fantastic Beasts, and the "Wizarding World" stuff is a catchall for the franchise rather than a specific name for any sub-series of it.

It's honestly annoying that sexy beard professor Jude Law is in a movie that I couldn't care less about.

It was a big Sundance hit so reviews are already out there. Got some really nice write-ups, but I've also learned not to get too excited about coming-of-age dramas that get really nice write-ups at Sundance

He's moved into the writing/directing space, so I imagine we'll see more out of him in the coming years.

LORD OF BOOTY posted:Well this is going to be loving terrible (because Bo Burnham is one of the actual worst comedians alive) i have heard some stories about Bo Burnham as a person (which i chalk up to him being 19-20 at the time) that paint him as a douche, but his comedy is pretty good and I think he's a pretty smart guy. Zach Stone is Gonna Be Famous was a great vehicle for him, and he's been trying to get a movie made for a while. At one point he was writing a musical.

I forgot that this was a stealth two-parter. I concede that they will be taken out in the next movie, except maybe like, one at the end of this one. Also Supergiant is missing for some reason even though has a more interesting power set than Black Dwarf. Or Thanos.

I'll probably watch it on opening night, but I must say I'm not super excited about them cramming every single character in there. That had been my main problem with the first two Avengers find, but at least this one has a non-generic villain.
