One of the most compelling parts of Russian dashcam compilations isn't the carnage going on outside the windshield, it's how blase most of the witnesses are about it- you watch an American or Australian video and it's nonstop babbling about someone cutting them off, while the Russian just had his passenger side and possibly passengers pancaked by a drunk driver in a T90 tank and at best you get a resigned mutter of "blyat" or "bozhe moi"

So when the one-way gearing for a chairlift fails (and the three different brake systems), gravity wants to pull everything down. If the chairs were empty or there were as much weight going down as going up, it wouldn't do that. You can see the chairlift slow down considerably after it loses all the weighted people on it.
