Head for the goal, Diamond Friends!! quote:The new anime will have a theme of "Aikatsu with your friends!" and will center on a new protagonist named Aine Yūki, who is good at making friends, and is enrolled in Star Harmony Academy's general education track. She befriends Mio Minato, the school's top idol, and becomes an idol herself. Aikatsu starts its 3rd series, so we get a whole new cast. If you haven't watch any Aikatsu yet, now's a good time to start. For those who don't already know, Aikatsu is based off the arcade game where you'd scan cards and play rhythm games, in order to get prettier clothes for your idol. It's marketed to kids, so it's a more comedic bent compared to Love Live and idolm@ster, and it'll be a long running series, so you'll get gradual character growth and lots of songs over time. A quick summary, the first 3 series Aurora Dream, Dear My Future, and Rainbow Live used a motif of ice skating combined with idols for their performances, and lots of magic is always involved. I haven't watch AD or DMF yet so I won't comment too much about them, other than saying DMF is a direct sequel to AD and people apparently like AD a lot. Reportedly, Pripara exists cause a company exec got pissed that Aikatsu copied the Pretty series, so they made Pripara in response. I've seen a good chunk of Pripara now, it's pretty fun. It's its own continuity as well other than refs to the older series so you can jump into it easily too. It drops the ice skating and goes all in on idoling, as girls go into the idol Matrix to become top idol. It's directed by the Milky Holmes director, so if you've seen that, you'll have an idea of what to expect from Pripara. WATCH RAINBOW LIVE SMCSubs is probably gonna sub it so look out for them. There's a possibility it could be added to idolw@tch too but we'll see. Three eps in, and I'm really not feeling Uma Musume. Mediocre sports anime, subpar CGDCT show, poor idol show. I'll probably still show up for the preshow, but only with half attention. Kiratto seems alright. It was very much a rushed setup ep, so I'll give it its fair shot. I adored Friends. The character designs are great, and our leads are both very charming in different ways. It's cute as heck, and I'm super excited for more.
