Sure, to be clear I'm not a lawyer but I do have a bit of experience navigating this. I assume most western countries are similar.

Just to be clear - intestate=dying with no legal will. This is just a quick skim of what I can think of off the top of my head.

When you die, everyone pretty much thinks of the assets and who gets what. That's the easy part.

What if you are alive but incapacitated, what are your wishes/personal directives? Heroic measures? DNR? If you kick it, what do you want done with your body? Traditional North American burial? Cremation? Eco friendly? Donate it for science? Do you care? Who is deciding this? Do you have enough cash in your estate to pay for your wishes? If not, then what? The funeral home isn't going to want to keep your body on ice until assets are liquidated and cash is available.

If you are married or common law, you're *probably* going to want to leave everything to your spouse (and vice versa) and let them be executor/power of attorney, but not necessarily.

Especially if you are single, someone has to take control and go through your poo poo, as in your actual, physical stuff in addition to bank accounts. If you get hit by a bus, do you really want your mom or dad to go through your personal effects (which is *everything* - including your collection of 70s hair porn in the back of your closet) Best friend? Do they even live in the same city as you? The person you think you want to do this - do they actually have the time to do this? Do you really want your kid sister that has 3 toddlers and an abusive alcoholic husband have to deal with this? Your senior citizen parents? What do you want done with the personal effects that are almost worthless? Are they personally cleaning out your house/apartment? What about your social media accounts? Does anyone have immediate access to your bank accounts to keep your estate running while this gets figured out? Do they know where to find the info they'll need? Do you have any insurance? Life or otherwise? If they can't get easy access to your accounts, do they have the financial ability to take time off work and look after everything as this gets sorted out? If something comes up that needs to get paid (like aforementioned funeral) - do they have the resources to do so?

Also, and this is the stuff that people forget, your estate is still going to be in existence for a while to wrap everything up. Just because you are dead doesn't mean Visa or other creditors don't get their money. Your taxes (yes, income taxes with the added bonus of estate taxes) still need to be done. Who is doing that? If you have a house and house insurance, who is paying the premiums? Who is watching the house? Who is paying the taxes? Do you have a mortgage? Who's dealing with them? Does the insurance company need someone to monitor the house to retain coverage? Who is dealing with your utilities? Your estate needs to go through probate and the courts. Who is driving that bus? The same guy that you want to get all your stuff? Do they know that? Does this person get paid for dealing with all this? Lots of paperwork. It's a big responsibility. Everything needs to be documented. If you don't have a will, this is far more painful and slow than it need be as everything needs to be approved by the courts (as in literally, going to the courts) and there is a good chance the person trying to deal with all your poo poo has never had to do it before. My sister-in-laws took more than a year and we had the help of the bank she worked for, which thankfully did estate planning (although she didn't get her poo poo together on her own and left it to her family to deal with it). A co-workers sister passed away intestate almost 2 years ago, and my he is STILL loving around with her estate getting poo poo straightened out, although there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel for that one.... and that is with the help of a lawyer.

They're pretty much the same as the 15+ STIs as far as I can tell. Fun cars.

Still clinging to the EJ for some reason - I would assume the FA24DIT from the Ascent will find its way into the STI eventually.

Buying used, I would lean towards a 15+ WRX instead and squeeze the seller hard to figure out if they've ruined the car before you got your hands on it.

2018 gets bigger brakes with 6-piston calipers up front, a little different shock valving, and a different center diff (which is possibly not as good as the older version). I also heard something about improved pistons.

Catching up, first watch chat: how can you have a $50k Rolex and not sell that? I love watches, have a bunch. All cheap. Man I get asked about this $150 “full metal” Shark brand I scored new on eBay for $42 more than I can tell you. When I’m at the beach people ask all the time about my different Neff watches that I have got for $10-15 off eBay. And all of them keep perfect time (until a random Neff will give up after being in the ocean). I love the look of Rolex and Tag and all that but the money?

And long shot...anyone a tax attorney or have advice for a business owner? I apparently am bad at the books and have underpaid sales tax. Not a lot of money but I do t want to get in trouble. I’ve gotten a letter and it’s keeping me up at night.

Also still going through divorce and if you the praying kind I could use your help

Typically when dealing with machine code you need a method of declaring what the number you typed actually represents as it can be ambiguous.

Depending on the IDE you're working in you can represent these numbers differently and the compiler needs to know what the hell you ment, so you would write numbers with a prefix to make it explicit as to what base you're working with.

No prefix or 0d#### will represent a decimal number, or base 10. A system of counting that pretty much everyone knows, digit is valid if it's between 0 and 9.

0x#### represents hexadecimal numbers, base 16 as mentioned. Valid digits are 0-9 and A-F.

0x45H is representing a decimal number 69. Hence it's an elaborate computer toucher joke that the plate actually is the number 69 in decimal.

The H at the end is just to make it explicit that it's a hexadecimal number.

E:

0x45 = 69 or 0d69 (but nobody does this unless you're coding in verilog because no prefix just means decimal pretty much everywhere)

The 69 might run afoul of vanity plate guidelines. Also, 0x69 is 105.

It's a nerdy way around the rules and only computer geeks will understand it.

Personally, if I were to go for such a plate, I'd pick 0X01A4H because :420:

I finally got the missus to almost entirely stop texting and driving

A few days ago, she was going 45mph, took both hands off the wheel, looked into her lap and started to text. So I grabbed the wheel and kind of yelled, "You are your mother!* Put the drat phone down, hold the wheel with at least one hand, and loving look where you're going." I wouldn't apologize for anything besides raising my voice**. She threatened to kick me out of the car 15 miles from home, and wouldn't talk to me for almost the entire evening/morning after our date. Yesterday, she told me that whenever she looks at her phone in the car, she hears me yelling in her head and puts the phone down to wait for a red light first. Not ideal, but progress was made and the "acting like your mother" gambit actually paid off in my favor

*I once tried to jump out of a moving car on the interstate and walk home to Chicago from southern Michigan instead of being in the car with her mother any longer. She has Bluetooth voice activated calls/texts but thinks that holding the wheel and looking at the road are optional parts of driving. Even on the highway, with her small children in the car, we'd catch her watching facebook videos every few minutes while neither hand held the wheel
**Her mother's terrible driving actually turned my generalized anxiety into a real panic disorder. I still let very few people drive me places without lots of Xanax. And that's 4 years and 2 therapists after I drove with her last

Almost 100% counterfeits, either run "at night" in the same factories with most-likely substandard materials and little-to-no QC, or complete knockoffs.

My Irish and Russian heritage make it nearly impossible to tell, aside from my prematurely graying beard and spotted hands/feet. Sure it can be a warning sign of more serious autoimmune disorders and might eventually rupture my spleen or give me skin cancer, but it's been benign for the 2 decades I've had it

I'm thinking here that maybe you don't get it because you don't get what hexidecimal is. We've said base 16 a few times. Well, if you remember your school days, our normal numbers, or values, are represented in base ten, just like you got ten fingers (though your fingers could be considered to technically represent base 11 because there's no finger to represent zero or a null value). Anyways, base ten means the normal (arabic) numerals 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 apply for each individual digit in the number. For hexidecimal this is different, because it's base 16, this means 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F are valid for each digit. We use letters to represent 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 because we don't have single-digit numerals above 9. So the value 10 in base 10 is represented by a zero in the "one's" place, and a 1 in the "ten's" place. In hex this would be represented differently, in the "one's" place (shutup pedants), you'd actually just have A, and no other numerals in any other places. A is 10, 10 is A, B is 11, 11 is B, and so on. The value 16 is when the "ten's" place comes into play, and that would be 0x10, so count your way on up to 69 in hex and you get 0x45.

It's a corny computer math joke.

The 0x and the H are merely identifiers that you should be thinking base 16. The 0x is how you tell a computer it's hex, the H is so a human being can more readily recognize the number.

Like 100% of vanity plates it suffers from the fact that it's an obscure thing only a few people will ever understand.

E: I unironically agree that the lady in the picture in the post above is gorgeous. Like, auto-immune diseases that have serious complications sound nasty but she looks pretty fine to me.

Sounded amazing, but the driver was driving it about like you'd expect someone with such a license plate to drive. Also insanely loud, even at idle (like almost open headers loud), so I'm just gonna go out on a limb and guess there was some exhaust work done somewhere.

If a person can't be trusted to actually y'know, pay attention whilst driving they don't deserve to hold a license. It's amazing she hasn't hit anyone and I guess it's good that she only looks at her phone whilst stopped but holy poo poo do you not think that maybe she has a problem?

As broke as I've been in life I've never even thought about dumping it. It's from a close family member that almost nothing else exists that was theirs, and it was something given to them for a large accomplishment (Lol no one in my family could have ever BOUGHT a rolex).

Same reason I have a WW1 issue 1911 with legitimate ivory grips in my gun case. I don't shoot it, and it's worth quite a bit of money, but it's a family passdown that is very sentimental. Some things are worth more than money.

I don't really "get" sentimental things. Unless somebody in my family actually made the thing and it's passed down, it's just "some old stuff" to me. Yeah, I'd sell that rolex. :v: It's cool if things have a story but I'm not going to romanticize consumer stuff.


I haven't worn a watch since I was a kid and had a :krad: calculator watch. I gave up and returned a fitness tracker recently after a week when it wasn't giving me an accurate heartbeat while working out.

It's from the 30s. It was given to my grandfather (along with cash and other poo poo) by a local rich guy who's house and barn caught fire while he was out of town, and his wife and children were there.

Grandfather happened to be squirrel hunting, smelled the smoke, and rushed over. He got the wife and kids out of the house, got the horses out of the barn, and then rode a horse to town and got a firebrigade going to try and get it put out. When the guy got back, his poo poo was burned, and all his barn animals and family were at my grandfather's place. So he gave him a ton of stuff. I still speak to people in that family, and it's still a story that gets told.

So, it has a neat story behind it. He gave it to me right before I went to boot camp. While I was in boot camp, he died. Of course he had no will, and his oldest son from his first marriage had more money than the rest of the family combined. So he lawyered up, took everything (house, land, cars, everything) and sold or junked it before anyone else could do anything. Part of that had been promised to me, in writing and signed by him, as being mine.

But we were loving poor, so nothing I could do. So it's legit all I have to remember him by other than some pictures. And if I ever see that son of a bitch again I'll end up in prison.

I lost out on a loving mint REPU, as well as all of my grandmother's things that were still in the house.

Edit: totally unrelated, but I somehow lost 5lbs at Sebring. Who says binge drinking is bad for you? :colbert:

I come from the depths of a decade on night shift to warn you.... it will not help. You have to have some iron loving sleep discipline to survive on 3rd, because your wife's going to want you to get up and do stuff with her in the evenings before work, and all your friends are going to assume that working nights means you haven't got anything to do in the evenings so they should call you to do stuff at what your body thinks is 2am.

I want to die if I have to be awake all day at any point because it means I'll be exhausted all night for a few days while my body freaks out at me for getting off the cycle.

:hfive: I understood the draw to go see a race live but never really though about it much. Then I went to the Nurburgring 24 and it was an experience I'll never forget. I need to go back to do it again with proper gear to stay the whole weekend at the track.

We just did all that poo poo last week as prep for the wife deploying. We still have to finalize wills but everything else is done.


Took advantage of nice weather and worked on the trucks this weekend. Caddy probably has a bad valve seal, may see if hotter plugs can cover it up enough to drive. F100 still randomly dies after ~5 minutes of driving but only 25% of the time.
