I actually loved this episode. I thought it was intriguing to show a complete and successful genocide, and how easily a civilization could get away with it. Most of the genocide episodes of Trek are done very well and this is no exception.
Also the Primitives didn't seem Amish to me beyond the luddite nature, they seemed more like a combination of Roma/Sinti, Jews and Native Americans.

I think I watch Voyager the most because I sometimes turn it on when I'm working because I want background noise where it doesn't matter if I'm paying attention to it or not. Any other Star Trek, and I risk watching it instead of working.

im watching the hirogen eps of VOY and i noticed something that kinda pisses me off

in the first hirogen ep (when sebben of nine and tuvok are in a shuttle that gets captured by two hirogen, who bring them onto their ship and start preparing to carve them up like turkeys when voyager swoops in and saves em) the two hirogen are loving HUGE. it looks like they used some of the same perspective tricks from LOTR in a few shots because tuvok and sebby look like lil hobbits next to the gandalfishly biglarge hirogen.





but every appearance afterwards, they're just normal sized pretty much. i mean they're kinda tall i guess but really they're about the same height as everyone else. im watching the retarded nazi episodes now and that commandant - the one who can't stop creaming his SS uniform slacks over how cool the holodeck is - is the same height as the doctor.

i suppose it was difficult to keep making them so huge via perspective tricks, or to keep casting huge actors (the hirogen to the right of tuvok is none other than tiny ron, a.k.a. manservant of the grand flippin' nagus!) but it looked really cool to have these massive mfers bringing the pain down upon janeways face, neelix's rear end, etc., and it's so typical of VOY to start with something so cool and then promptly strip it of all coolness and crank the suck up to 11. that's like the entire ethos of the show, starting with the pilot.
