She is wearing two separate curved sections over her breasts. They are not connected, and leave the center completely unguarded. It is way worse, although not as bad as some other boobplates. That is a really low bar though, and not an excuse
Yea, it's a weird break in the design that doesn't even gel with the other models. They should have just made it a similar single/segmented plate that was just a slightly different silhouette or something, rather than having a pair of discs stapled on like that. The rest of the model is actually good though, she has the same sort of suit as the guys and they haven't done anything stupid like cut down the lines or give her heels - I appreciate that she has the same style of heavy boot that the other models do. You could probably fix a good deal by using some greenstuff to meld the two plates, at least.

So what I'm hearing is that goons only recognize women from their breasts?

I legit knew that was a woman from the thumbnail.

That's a fairly androgynous head, IMO, and could easily pass as a male Juve. The real reason it stands out as female is because the rest of the Van Saars have facial hair.

I don't have a problem with boob armor in general, mainly because these are fantasy miniatures with no basis in reality, so the logical arguments of why you wouldn't wear armor like that really don't apply because the poo poo is imaginary and fantastical.

With regards to NM (and 40K in general) I view it as purely a fashion/style choice because who the gently caress cares about the real world implications of a crushed sternum received in H2H when you have fusion and plasma weapons that will disintegrate you entirely?

These new Necro releases are cool and good. Making me wish I wasn't so hyped to make a chaos cult, because they're going to have a lot less weapon options than the main gangs just based on sprues.

I guess I was thinking of goliaths; I'm gonna be using some gorkamorka metal ork models I saved. But they're actually kinda small compared to the new sculpts so I'm not sure

The new Goliaths are big and beefy for sure, but Gorka models sure are awesome so tough call. I don't think they'd look too out of place especially compared to the smaller Escher sculpts, but it's been a long time since I saw Gorkamorka in the flesh.

I just made a custom vehicle using a plastic deff kopta and an old wartrak. The difference in size between the gunner from the trak and the pilot on the kopta is ridiculous. I imagine they wouldn't look particularly intimidating next to Goliaths.

Other than that, I'm happy with how this turned out. Another thread success story!

That's basically what I decided to count it as, haha. I'm just glad I was finally able to realize my vision of this particular conversion. It's been bothering me for months.

Those old orks are so hilariously small compared to most of the modern models, it's really glaring whenever they actually get close to each other. I was going to use one as a driver for a custom trukk, but it looked like a dinky baby ork and I ended up converting a new driver.

I think the worst one was the old ork biker with twin cannons (this one). I have one of these kicking around mostly on the sprue from a bunch of stuff someone gave me, and the rider is just tiny, he's like a grot that didn't get the huge-head memo. Obviously that model is really old - probably 25 years now - but its one of the places where scale creep has been particularly bad. Some ranges, like Eldar, have had very little creep at all, the oldest RT guardians are pretty much in scale with the current range.

That's why you've basically got to have the Gorkamorka rider for that bike.

Well, I did it - a Warmaster Vampire Counts army in less than a month. I finished up the basing and dulcote yesterday, so these guys are ready to go!

Unfortunately, we are set for (yet another) snow storm on Wednesday (gently caress you March, 2018,) which is the day I fly out, and rather than get stuck in Philly (which I know will happen,) I am leaving Tuesday afternoon. As such, I won't be able to get photos tonight, but I'll try to get a few shots from the hotel and on the gaming table.

I was going to bail on the NM tourney at Adepticon due to not knowing the new rules, but now that I'll be in a hotel room tomorrow night with nothing to do, maybe I'll read up on it. How different is the new version vs. the old/Community Edition?

It’s very different but mainly because it has alternating activations. I’d say you have nothing to lose by taking part.

Normally I'd agree, but this is technically a tournament - judging by past years, it's pretty laid back, but I don't want to be that guy showing up to a tourney not knowing which end to point at the enemy.

Anyone have any thoughts on an alternate Orlock scheme? I'm not really that interested in the studio colors. I'm almost leaning towards either a dark red or drab green for the shirt, but then I'm not sure where else to take it.

To me Orlock screams Mad Max so I'd probably stick to black, brown and tan mostly.

Something like bright orange could be fun too..

The blue really drives home that they are literally blue collar gangers.

If you're feeling brave, you could do them in a hodgepodge of flannels or southwestern patterns to evoke cowboy roots.

I agree with the Mad Max suggestion above. If you don’t like the blue then you could replace it with brownish cream cloth and some greys that would fit in with a brown/black leather scheme.

Orlocks in bright orange, you say?

I'm currently painting up some of the new ones in the same scheme, since the lasgunners are out and it would be handy to have a combat shotgun or two in the mix.

Fun Shoe

The problem with this is that it doesn't include Acolyte Hybrids (your champions) or any Aberrants (your heavy melee specialists).

Probably the best source of a GSC gang is the genetealer half of the deathwatch overkill box but that's wildly expensive.

Frankly I'm a bit annoyed that the GSC gang has units that are only available in deathwatch overkill box (aberrants) and no actual genestealers.

Hm. Deathwatch Overkill is a stand-alone board game? It's pricey but is it any fun on it's own? The kill team made of marines from different chapters would probably be fun to paint but I wouldn't want them for anything except for the board game part.

If I get the minis from this set would I need anything other than the White Dwarf with the rules?
