same as any black library thing, the decent writers in their stable can elevate the material, the worse ones (gav thorpe being the egregious example in Beast Arises) are a bit of a chore

Dan Abnett phones it in so hard on I Am Slaughter, the first chapter might as well be a dial tone. For a book with a dude named Stab, it managed to just be kinda boring.

Grav Thorpe also is not the best writer for Elves. Both because of his "There is as many Elves as the plot demands" opinion and his just trying to turn them into Fantasy Eldar.

They were available in the initial Sisters of Battle codex in 2nd ed, then they could be used as zealots or Inquisition weirdos later.

Idk if he started the trend, but Khaine is a loser and its cool and good that his avatars exist just for bigger threats (and random guardsmen) to kill.

Though it could be interesting if, in a rare feat of tzeentch cribbing, shards of Khaine are actually just cleverly disguised Khorne artifacts.

I've been out of Warhammer for ages and I'm going to be offloading a bunch of my stuff, but first and foremost, are the books worth a goddamn? Like old army books and poo poo. I've got a huge stack of 30ish pounds of them that I want to get rid of(extras from when I ran a warhammer business).

Should I just sell'em in a big lot? What would be a good price, if so, like 100-150 for the entire stack?

The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of *blank*
Took my Tau out for their first post codex release game. I was fairly impressed by how they did although a lot of mistakes were made. Obviously it’s get your excuses in when you lost but an entirely infantry, plasma and Aggressor heavy Raven Guard Primaris list has to be almost as bad it gets for a Bork’an Tau list.

As expected the Y’Vahra almost feels like cheating, the branched Nova charge strat on a Riptide is really good, as is it’s overcharged heavy burst cannon. I wasn’t over sure about the fusion heavy Ghostkeel.

Nice opponent and I almost went to a win, being 12-6 up on points but being tabled in turn 5. I made some dumb mistakes like forgetting to deep strike my drones in turn one to protect the Y’Vahra, and some other positional errors, and I’m not used to having literally two handfuls of stratagems that are usable, so it was a bit overwhelming.

Using the same list again against Slaaneshi list tonight so be interesting to see how it does.

There's a bunch of poo poo in here that I want but not enough to pay for the whole stack. If you'll split (and ship to the UK) PM me and we can work something out.

While we're in audiobook chat land, is there any reason why all of Eisenhorn is available as an audiobook (and is really well narrated) but the other 'popular' series like Gaunt and Cain aren't? (barring the most recent Gaunt, which I think was)

The majority of the Cain/Gaunt stuff was written before the rises of modern BL audio. To be fair so was Eisenhorn/Rav but a 6 book series is a hell of a lot easier to do than 15 odd books.

Is Ravenor worth listening to if I enjoyed EH? He seems a bit weird when he shows up in the EH books, and the reviews are mixed.

Ravenor is great and will make you appreciate how loving good at their jobs Kara and Harlon are. It's different enough from EH to be interesting in its own right while retaining the high as hell quality of EH if that makes anysense.

I'll second this. The Ravenor series has a much different feel than Eisenhorn, but it is really enjoyable. I'd say it's more investigative with some crazy set-pieces, less action-adventure than Eisenhorn.
