Episode Gladio again: This may not be the real Gilgamesh but he's kicking my rear end. I have no idea how I'm supposed to beat him. I made it to the second phase but he annihilated me and I can barely scratch him.

Focus on dodging at the last second to parry and build up your rage meter. Once I got that sucker up to 4x damage he went down pretty easy.

He spends so much time being unblockable in the second phase that I can't really do that. I'm really not sure what I'm missing.

It feels like they wanted to design a Dark Souls boss but with a much, much less responsive dodge roll.

Don't dodge roll, perfect guard instead. e: except when he does Impulse (the one where he draws his sword and sends a shockwave)

Are you doing Time Attack or something? You should have like 20 Hi Potions :v:

Perfect guarding doesn't work against the glowing-red unblockable attacks though, does it? I assumed I had to dodge roll those.

Anyway I beat him this time. I focused less on dodging and perfect blocking and instead just... blocked regular style. I still got beat up bad in the second phase but I still won.

Optional battle though it may be that is actually a really good fight and also genuinely hard. Considering the casual-tier difficulty of the entire rest of the game they should have the courage to try stuff like that more often.

Also, something that isn't explicitly pointed out anywhere: if you get knocked down and manage to get mostly clear of any further attacks for a few seconds then holding Triangle will restore some HP. You can take an attack or two in the process but a stagger will reset Iggy's glasses animation.

Nah it's whatever, though I will say that I found Episode Prompto to be the best of the three in terms of story and gameplay. Ultimately it was what turned me around on Prompto as a character, from not at all giving a poo poo about him to genuinely appreciating his character and presence in the story. So different strokes for different folks, I guess.

SHINee's back

I still need to finish Episode Prompto. It dumped me out into the little open world and I haven't picked it back up since, but I did enjoy it. I'm not a huge fan of how he plays, but the story stuff is good and it seems to have a lot to do in it. Plus Aranea.

Doesn't it just turn into a Metal Gear bossfight at the end? Seems like a p legit piece of DLC.

Anyone have a save file even remotely near there I could steal?

That's where I just left off as well. Steam name is the same as here. I have no clue about where the save files are kept or the best way to share them with you though.

Assuming I know what I'm doing and got the right one, this one is after getting the quest to go there.

Any chance you're using cloud saves? If so you might be able to recover them that way.

Prompto is great outside of battle. In it the only thing he's good for is Piercer and then dying a lot.

I don't get how you're supposed to use him fights with multiple enemies, I just get dog piled on. Actually that's kind of what happens every time I'm in a fight with like 5 or more dudes but at least Noct can blink away.

I feel like out of all the bros Gladio breaks the game harder than anyone.

He has a simple yet incredibly powerful counter that lets you fight enemies way above your level once you get the rage meter going

Harrow
Jun 30, 2012

Yeah Gladio is really, really drat strong.

So is Prompto, though. He can do truly idiotic damage on vulnerable enemies, at least compared to what I could do with Noctis. I switched to him while fighting the boss in Malmalam Thicket after fighting the boss for a couple minutes and getting it down to like 60%. The boss became vulnerable and I used Prompto's special attack and the boss was almost dead, just like that. It was insane.

Is there still a FF 14 thread on site? I just got gifted a copy on PS4 with the dlc. So now I've been leveling conjurer and just unlocked the White mage job. Healing has turned out to be pretty fun.

It can be kind of tricky, but usually I just run away to the edge as noct when the fight starts, then switch. Gladio, Noct and Iggy will all gladly aggro the poo poo out of enemies. I assume the bazooka is good for multiple enemies, but usually I use the SMG to burst enemies down one by one.

It's also way more fun than it should be to see the AI controlling Noctis, because you get to see from a different perspective what Noct looks like when he's fighting and it's awesome, just this teleporting whirl of weapons and attacks.

Ignore everything people say about classes, the game isn't hard and definitely not balanced for two license boards per character.

1. Don't stress about job selection. The game isn't that hard and the ability to have two jobs per character means that everyone is going to be strong and versatile. The previous version of the game only let you have one job per character and wasn't all that hard. Now you can have two, and the rest of the game did not get buffed to accommodate that extra versatility. No matter what you do, you're going to have a stronger and more versatile party than if you played the PS2 Zodiac Job System version, so don't worry about it. If you really want to get into min/maxing, you can have some fun doing it, but don't min/max your job/character combinations unless doing so is fun for you all on its own. (I happen to enjoy job min/maxing myself, but there's no reason to do it if you don't.)

2. Learn how gambits work. I think some players think of the gambit system as a sort of optional "make combat take less micromanagement" thing, but it really is the core of the combat system. They are very simple to understand (basically just if -> than rules), but the initial setup can be a little tedious when you don't yet have access to all the options.

3. Black magic is overpowered. Have fun with it.

4. Balthier is the leading man.

Once you play for a bit it might pay to come back and ask some license board-specific questions, because it has a few weird quirks now that you can have two jobs, but for the most part there's nothing urgent (and if you haven't played FFXII at all before, if I tried to explain it now it'd be gibberish).
