For me I think the show's quality started degrading after the episode where Tyreese died midpoint season 5. It was the first episode where a main character dying spent almost the entire episode focused around the slow-paced introspection of it. It was really well-received at the time, but seemed to start a trend of overt melodrama that's carried over to the present. Carl's death episode felt like a poorly done ripoff of Tyreese's sendoff, complete with also being the midseason premier three years later.

It was EVER well received? I loving hated that episode. It might be one of the worst, and that's saying something with it coming on the heels of Beth's sloppy and stupid death.

For one, Coach--- err, Tyreese just gave up and got bit by a tiny rear end kid. OK, dumb mistake #1. Then, Noah or Tyreese don't immediately head to the garage to try to clamp the wound, or try to cut it off or anything. Dumb mistake #2. Noah somehow takes 30 minutes running across a community that's about a 1 minute run. Dumb mistake #3. It was just terrible.

Dumbest most pointless death for a character known for raging out and murdering 50 zombies with a hammer that, if his meltdown on a subway car shortly after is to be believed, was over a contract argument.

Figures that they'd shitcan one of the only remaining Alexandrians aside from Aaron that let you know the town had people before Rick's crew arrived and that Carol's conversations are still only ever about the "should we kill/should we not kill, I am so tired of the killing" "but we have to rise up and defend ourselves and kill" thing. In this comics, the equivalent scene is Dwight shooting Rick in the stomach with a crossbow arrow, which he lied to Negan is tainted, and this sounds so much worse than that.

I actually liked the most recent episode. It was in chronological order for the first time in ages and it felt a bit less like a TV show than the other episodes.
Free Willy's mum turning up in the lesbian party bus to hand out library knowledge was dumb and so was Jadis just somehow finding Negan but at least it felt like something was actually happening, the situation after this episode is now different in a potentially good way.

I'm not saying it was good, but it was definitely better.

I was going to make a joke about how eight year old gasoline is finally starting to not work so their car chases are super slow but when I looked up the show's timeline apparently ultranerds have plotted out every reference to time passing in the entire series and it hasn't even been two years since the outbreak.

That was Hilltop's old doctor, Siddiq is Hilltop's new doctor, and I think Alexandria still doesn't have a doctor. The Kingdom's doctor is probably some extra.

Season 2 of this show was a long drawn out season that took place in a farm with a bunch of lovely characters. It hasn’t been good for five years, but now I’m just waiting for Rick to take his death and resurface as a lumberjack or fall in love with his sister that doesn’t exist yet. It is now Dexter bad

I got the stupid communities mixed up. Apparently that character was mentioned in passing two seasons ago.

Since Tobin is not long for this world, are we gonna have any named Alexandria characters left by the end of the season? Unless Heath makes some form of miraculous comeback, are we really going down to Aaron and Scott?

Rick’s group truly ruin every civilization they encounter.

E: now that I think about it, the communities are burning through doctors like crazy. Drunk Pete, Denise, Dr. Carson, the other Dr. Carson.

Just about all mental health stuff is completely wrong in all media. I hallucinated a few times and it certainly wasn’t about my mother calling me.

One of the few movies I walked out of was trying to be all mysterious and disjointed and poo poo, after about 20 minutes I was like ‘gently caress this poo poo, she murdered her whole family and is in an institution’. Spoiler alert, she did kill her family and was institutionalized. Later I had to bullshit my way through a chat with the producer and she was going on and on about ‘Veterans’ groups want us to show it to people struggling with PTSD!’ Lady clearly had never been in the psych ward or knew what PTSD was like.

I meant the prison as that entire arc. Sure it had it's good moments at the beginning, but then *turd*. Especially when the Governor tries for round two and this time we've got a tank....with unlimited fuel when the plot calls for it

The thing with comics is that almost all comics are poo poo, but the medium allows the reader to imagine or interpret stupid things in the best way possible if the reader so chooses.

TV is a less flexible medium where stupid poo poo is just stupid.

That being said, I also would have hated the hallucinogenic phone calls in the comic.

The time scale is just hosed.

At least in theory it's been around 2 years since the outbreak. That's part of why the rubbish tip people were so loving stupid.
But in real time it's been 9 years so they're all MUCH older now and it feels weird because of it. Especially with the kids. Enid's gone from about 14 to 18 in two months of show time.

Did anyone notice Stephen Ogg's moustache going from really grey to super black too? When he was with the rubbish people it had loads of grey flecks in that seemed to vanish. He also sounded a shitload more Canadian too, I didn't realise he was Canadian until these episodes.

I love the soundtrack here. And while the vehicles did seem unusually slow back when I first watched it, it kind of makes sense if you think about it. Rick doesn't want the savior guy crashing his truck into his own car, and knocking him off the road. Savior guy, for his part, is watching for his opportunity to do just that.

So, Savior guy, figuring out that neither Rick nor Daryl seem to have much in the way of firearms, intentionally slows down so he and his machine-gun buddy can exterminate the two. When machine gun guy gets killed, he slows down again, hoping that Rick will be dumb enough to try and pass him. Rick sees that coming, and starts pumping the brakes on 1:50 (which is why Rick's brake lights keep coming on and off in said time stamp).

Then...I dunno. Savior guy kind of spaces out, misses the opportunity to run Rick off the road when Rick DOES finally drive up to his side, and Rick...somehow manages to keep his car at the EXACT same speed his is, while making a jump that I'm not sure should even be possible, given how physics work. So, that was pretty stupid.

Still...I think the scene makes a lot more sense when you realize "wait a minute, the saviors aren't TRYING to escape from Rick and Daryl. They're trying to exterminate them". What do you guys thing?

Do the tigers death scene next.

Yes! Thank you for a righteous rant of which I agree with every word! Felt good to read.

The most realistic depiction of hallucinogens I've ever seen is in fear and loathing in Las Vegas when the acid is just kicking in. The carpets and wallpaper start to swirl around in a kinda similar way to how lsd "looks" and I distinctly remember saying to the friends I was watching with that whoever did those effects has definitely done mushrooms or Lsd. I was impressed by it because the whole point of those substances are that they give you experiences that cannot be fully conveyed using existing real-world words or imagery, and yet they portrayed it. And then they introduced dinosaur heads and seeing outright crazy poo poo that wasnt there and I was like ok, that's bollocks. Still a fun movie though.

I hate the head-character trope so much I've ranted about it before on here, and that is largely -but nowhere near exclusively- Dexters fault. It just isn't, in my experience, how hallucinating works.
