Trabant posted:I've only turned a handful of things and therefore am hardly an expert, so: I don't know if there's a better way of clearing out the inside of the cone. It's basically the same way you'd hollow out a deep vessel, with the tool rest going well into the form itself, but taken to the extreme while... uh, sitting on the tool rest? I guess if you're dead-set on doing this, you kinda have to do it this way. I thought one should take care to stay clear of the tool in case it snags and kicks up and hits you in the whatever you didn't clear? Also I thought you should keep the tool rest close to the work piece in order to minimize the risk of that happening? Whereas this guy actively leans over the handle of a tool that goes halfway past the rest so if it snags it will probably fling him into an active tornado of maple and tools? Or am I being a wuss?

Looks safe. That's probably what they were planning to do yesterday in Russia, when a security guy turned off the fire alarm after receiving a report about a fire.

Uber's lidar manufacturing partner is throwing Uber under the Not that I'm surprised. It should be noted that the lidar manufacturer (Velodyne) doesn't have access to any of the data from the car involved. They're only saying that their tech would've seen the pedestrian and reported it to the rest of the Uber software/hardware running the vehicle.

A properly made system would go into failsafe mode if it detected a problem with the LIDAR or any other critical sensor, so I'm going to call the problem being in software. e: He's lucky that semi is a complete write-off, because they'd never get the smell of his poo poo out of the seat.

This is a hot box for keeping food warm during banquets or other catering events. We use them at work all the time. You put a few sterno cans in the bottom and it heats the box for a few hours. Something probably fell into one of the sterno cans and lit up everything else. They have vents on the side you can close if something like this happens to choke off the air. Although if they are anything like ours the seals are so old and hard the doors aren't airtight to begin with.
