Vegetarian fare needs to improve a bit first. A lot of the time when I go out vegetarian options are frilly little lightweight meals designed for 45 kilo hipster girls. Much of the time I end up getting the meat option simply because I'll need 5 of those overpriced herb bread and dip platters to fill me up. Its a godsend when I actually find places that will provide a hearty, filling vegetarian meal.

And why the gently caress is vegetarian pasta only like a buck cheaper? That pumpkin is 2$ a kilo at the shops, beef starts at 15$.

Eating meat was just the first thing to come to my head.

I have no idea what will be morally repugnant that I think is perfectly fine now, likely because it's so endemic to my life that I can't even imagine it.

It's a bit of an outside context problem.

Yeah right. Buddy, when I was a kid being gay wa's the worst thing in the world but I didn't vote no on a survey. We're all products of our environment and the only people talking like Greer in this current environment, right now, are conservative assholes.

Clive James was born in the same year and moved through the same circles, and despite being a socialist, a supporter of the workers, and an intellectual all his life, in recent years he's been pro-Iraq war and a mild climate change sceptic.

Does anyone else find it super depressing that everyone is issued with talking points in order to be on message.

Taking a step back from that being expected and the norm, it's totally loving bonkers right?

I guess part of it is depressing, but in this day and age where one slip up can result in 24 hour news coverage and an idiotic public forgetting the important issues I don't think it's too stupid a move.

Meh, I don't think so. In addition to what others have raised about the 24 hour media cycle and one mistake, nobody can be over every single issue that's going on on any given day. Talking points give politicians something to say beyond "idk" if they're asked about an issue (which you know will turn into a news story, particularly if it's a big issue) without having to be extensively briefed on every single thing, even if it's outside their portfolio/electorate. If they're just for question time and just acting has "here is the strategy, here is what we're trying to nail them on, go forth" then I care even less.

It is, but the instant someone gives an answer to a question which clashes with party policy it can get a lot of media attention.
