But the next best thing is distributing the ill-gotten gains back to the workers via progressive taxation.

A lot of specific individual bans on unenforceable items is a great place to start and end. The status quo will be maintained.

WhiskeyJuvenile posted:The ability to one day move classes doesn't mean much until it's accomplished. A wage earner can always lose the wage, no matter how much it is. I'm not talking about the ability to one day move classes; I'm talking about someone who has/had the choice of moving classes (in the sense of "living off returns" not "making more money") and chose not to. Someone who, had they chosen to have the standard living of a normal person making <$100,000, could have already saved enough to live off investment returns alone, or who already could live off returns alone but chooses to keep working because it means a lot more money (if someone gets, say, $50,000 from investment returns a year they have the option of no longer working, but they're choosing to do so because it means a lot of extra money). So if someone technically could live off investment returns but chooses not to because it would mean lowering their lifestyle from "super privileged" to "somewhat less privileged," it doesn't make sense to really count that person as someone living off labor. And that probably applies to quite a few people; almost anyone making like $300k+ who has been working for 10+ years would fit this description.

Any real gun enthusiast would live in a house that is a 100% accurate fully functional scale recreation of a triple barreled 18" battleship turret, sleeping on a hammock in the powder magazine. Anyone else is just a poser.

18" turrets are for loving casuals, the real gun-heads live in original prototypes of the proposed 20" turrets for that nutso Nazi super-battleship.

Corky Romanovsky posted:What would be the GDP per worker if we eliminated managerial and administrative overhead? these administrator and managerial positions have been paid very high in capitalist businesses to specifically be whipcrackers for capitalists on everyone else to underpay them. the real overhead is the capitalist extraction of profits and all of the market externalities resulting from its short-sighted profit seeking behavior over any other goal. you know, absurd market externalities like tens of millions of involuntarily unemployed and underemployed or the refusal to address the impending crisis of the global environment for human habitation through climate change if you think it's roll eyes to suggest capitalists exploit and extract profits from laborers, please define to me economically what % of labor the master was entitled to by his value-added to the labor of the slave and likewise for the noble and serf. remember that capitalists in american society very often do not even run or administrate the business. they simply own it and hire other people to run and administrate the business while maybe setting a high level policy to encourage offshoring of labor comedyblissoption has issued a correction as of 08:56 on Mar 27, 2018 |

comedyblissoption posted:administrative and managerial work isn't necessarily bad or unneeded and may even be necessary in any society. in some worker co-ops, the workers hire the managers and set a policy of a certain ratio of pay between the lowest and highest paid employees of the worker co-op. I have to agree with this. In some framings of the issue, the problem is not that a worker is never paid the full amount of the value that they created, but rather that when it comes to the part of the value that is retained by the company, they do not get a say in how it is spent.
