This is so bad because it's contrived, and the placement isn't helping the disjointed pacing. And from how everyone else is talking, I feel like it's going to get worse before it gets better. I don't have a great feeling about whoever it looks like is running around with Morgana now, because if he found a friend? Great: now he has an audience to save face for, if they don't outright encourage his shittery. Five bucks says he just peeled off our next party member.

Hell, Teddie got this poo poo over with in one boss fight. How much of our time is Morgana going to waste being a prick with this tantrum?

The biggest problem I have with the Persona series is not really the plotlines or the characters, but the interaction between these characters, or more appropriately the lack thereof. In all 3 (main) games, you have disparate individuals who are drawn together by the weird poo poo going on and become fast friends by the end of the game, but it seems I'm left with a question every time: when did that happen, exactly? Have you ever played Persona 3? The game has scenes of party members hanging out without the MC, and for the majority of the game they're quite clearly more on the basis of co-workers than actual friends with everyone except the MC. Yukari doesn't trust Mitsuru, Junpei resents Akihiko and to a lesser degree the main character, and Shijiro doesn't like anyone.

The big reason P3 is is my favorite game in the series is because it doesn't take the fact that everyone in the party will be friends as a given. The party members need to actually grow a little to become a real team.

Like, I fully think that Persona 5 actually has the party that is the most actually friendly to one another. From the way that the Hawaii trip goes to just a lot of little things, at no moment do I question that these people are friends, personally speaking, maybe not close friends but like, compared to Chie and Yosuke; Ryuji and Ann actually get along and I could see hanging out outside of the main character, as just an example. Except for Morgana and Ryuji, in this current narrative sequence, which is the point.

The best bits are the confidant events where you go out with a person and a second person shows up though, which I believe can happen with party members and from memory do show off those party members being friends.

Maybe I just am less critical as a person, admittedly I tend to ignore faults more often than not in works I enjoy.

I think one of the big things P5 needed was longer Mementos conversations and/or more events where Confidants hung out with each other or at least ran into each other.

About P4, though, it baffled me Chie and Yosuke were supposed to be friends. Chie flipped out constantly at Yosuke and was hilariously abusive to him over a DVD he promised he'd pay her back for and Yosuke insanely condescending to Chie in return. Ryuji and Ann come off so much better with little things like Ryuji stepping between Ann and Yusuke when they're not sure if Yusuke is a stalker or something.

I'm really critical of things I enjoy and I still don't see why so many people in this thread seem to think this game is video game hitler. That's P2! :v:

That's a bit of an exaggeration. I don't really think Junpei resents Akihiko; he's amazed that Akihiko has a swarm of fangirls without even trying, but otherwise they get along fine - otherwise Junpei wouldn't have roped him into the silly stuff like Operation Babe Hunt.

It's not even that Shinjiro doesn't like anyone, he's just very aware that he has a limited time left and thinks that people are better off not getting too close to someone like that (and y'know, the whole murdering thing). People are critical about the game, but I don't think it's on the level of like, Hatred/ Order 1886/ DNF/ Aliens: Colonial Marines/ EVOLVE or Borderlands tho. People just have strong opinions on the series.

In my limited experience with JRPGs, I think Tales is doing the best on character dynamics. Maybe not on gameplay, but they're certainly doing a lot better than FF15 did.

Same. Before I really disliked Teddie, but now that this arc has come along and everything, Morgana has taken his place. I don't mind the whole plot itself, but the way it's set up and how Morgana's kind of always been a insufferable douchecat doesn't lend me much sympathy to him. It does introduce Haru though, who I really like and has my favorite Phantom Thief outfit.

I do like how for the most part, none of the P5 cast are as obnoxious towards each other as the P4 cast. Seeing Ryuji's and Ann's friendship was a breathe of fresh air.

At this point I was running MC/Makoto/Ryuji/Yusuke as my main team even though Ryuji and Yusuke both fill the same physically oriented slot(in slightly different ways, but still doing the same basic thing). I used Morgana more or less exclusively as a heal bot and just put Garu on a persona Joker could use.

Physical attack oriented persona tend to be a lot better than magic ones in p5.

On the topic of Makoto, the fact she gets two basically identical physical attack abilities right beside each other than then none, ever again, is sort of bizarre. Especially since her strength outgrows her magic for a little while and never is that far behind even when magic pulls ahead.

I can't speak about 3 but P4 cast is really tightly knit, with some exceptions*.
I think that's because we get to see their shadows at their worst, so they get a lot of characterization time that normally would be spent on the villains. Even more pointedly, the characters see each other at their worst; when you know your friends saw the part of you that you hate the most and didn't really care** you are going to fear rejection far less.

As for the current plot beat, I dislike it but Haru managed to salvage some moments of it. Her introduction is some decent comedy at least for how obviously over her head she is.

You know, it might have been interesting if she were a Confidant before this plot happened. We could have gotten hints about her dad, maybe she put up the request for her father on the Phan-site and grew frustrated waiting for the Phantom Thieves to get around to it, and when she got the opportunity with Morgana to do it herself, she took it.

Mechanically, Morgana gets a lot of mileage out of those +HP accessories you get from the big bang burger challenges, probably the only character that does. His armor options are all high evade, low defense, and his HP is low, but those accessories means he can usually take the hits that get through his evade without getting one-shotted on hard difficulty.

On Arist criticizing the game I like it a lot, he makes a lot of points on things I often hadn't even thought about. I don't agree with everything obviously but I enjoy the commentary.

I thought Morgana was taking Haru with him in Mementos to help powerlevel her for the current dungeon, but that'd be an interesting direction too. Though wouldn't Akechi be fine? If he did get pulled in, won't he have the Metaverse app now to help lead him out to safety?

Y’know, maybe doing this in a public-yet-sparsely-populated area where we’re fully visible from far away the day after the building gained news attention for being the target of vandalism was a bad idea. We probably could have gone somewhere a little more inconspicuous and just like, walked over.

So that's what? 2 or 3 people the gang have pulled into the Metaverse who just happened to be nearby? It makes Futaba not being pulled into her own dungeon when Ryuji activated the app seem even more inconsistent.
