So is the coop seamless through the whole game? Or is it choppily in and out where he can only be in certain parts with you? Or if I launch a new game, can my wife play with me from the get go to the ending credits?

I'll be doing basically the same thing with my wife, except due to her time availability I'll probably have played through everything solo first and then have her host and play with her second so that everyone gets credit for everything.

I wanna see how long i can keep the first guy i rescued (which I'm sure is randomly generated). He's reasonably stealthy, but also got himself injured while we were driving in an ATV. I thought he was dumb, until i asked him to take out the pilot of a helicopter that just landed.

A single AR shot later, the helicopter exploded.

You need to complete the first hour solo before you unlock co-op.

Once you flip a switch on a cell tower it lets you now co-op is available. She'll need to do the same.

The modernized Far Cry games have only ever been hard when you gently caress up, or if you intentionally make it hard on yourself. You can silently snipe the entire game with basically no recourse on the part of the AI.

In 2 I used to add challenge by rolling with the M79 grenade launcher in the pistol slot, the 6-shot grenade launcher as my primary, and an RPG as my special. Everything was always exploding all the time.

I have an i5-4790k which is just a little better than yours. Playing at 1080p with a 970 I can set most settings to high and get a 55-60FPS. Adjust as appropriate for your resolution and GPU

Also I got some odd glitches where I couldn't rescue Merle, or talk to the CIA guy when hunting the piss tape, but I happened to wander into the next part of the quest area purely by accident and was able to finish them then which honestly kinda redeemed it a lot

Hmm, that sounds pretty good.
I have an i5-4790k and a GTX 1060 and getting 55-60fps on high-mid settings sounds acceptable to me.

Turn off the enemy outlines and HUD and stop using a silenced sniper rifle. I also limited myself to bow, silenced pistol, shotgun, assault rifle.

That's actually a bit worse than I'd expect. Blow some compressed air in your case and overclock your gpu a bit if you haven't yet. I play mostly high with textures on ultra and get 50-60, you should be able to do the same with very close to a locked 60.

It's about the same as 2, maybe 80 feet from point of ignition, for the exact same reason of if it didn't stop it'd burn down the entire world. Bigger than 3 and 4 but it'll always burn down less than you want.

The main adversary of every far cry game has always been really well done, and this one does not disappoint. Really? The dude seems like babby's first cult leader creative writing session to me. Vaas had some real emotion six years ago and JoSeed just seems like an lifeless, emotionless character who needs to hit all x of x typical cult leader points.

Glad you're enjoying it, don't get me wrong but all of the cult members seem hugely cliché to the point where you can predict what they are going to say sentence by sentence.

Fortunately, the gameplay is great and no-one really plays FC for the story.

The first walk into the cult compound oozed menace, at least, and that dude bringing down the helicopter by mulching himself in the propellor sold that these dudes are hardcore into protecting Joseph. I mean, eeeesh.

It wasn’t as good as the Vaas stuffsure, but IIRC that was kind of a happy accident. They weren’t planning on him being such a central figure to the game but Mando’s performance was so good they upped his role substantially. I think the real failing of Joseph as a villain isn’t the writing as much as the acting. Mando and Baker sold their roles so well.

Same as 2 is great, Far Cry 2 always seemed like an OK compromise between being able to literally burn down the entire map from any location and the wimpy fires of Far Cry 3/4. The only thing that could make it better would be to maybe slow it down and make it last longer (but that could easily get frustrating...) and maybe make the area a little less perfectly circular.

It's hard to do quiet menace, especially without face capture. (At least I assume a lack of face capture from the quality of the sync, who knows.) Buoyant psychopathy is much easier to get across in quality VO. I think he does a fine job, but he's probably a better TV actor than a voice one.

I'll actually give you the opening scene, that was pretty decent, but nothing changes from there.

I haven't finished the game yet, but all of the main antagonists are the same in that they are one-note as all hell without exhibiting anything unique or intriguing.

99% of the time, poo poo like that doesn't bother me, but you don't get games that work with an American cult theme too often and it's just disappointing (but not surprising) that it's so dull.

Edit: Without going into the politics of it, I'm just saying that I think they could still have made it a lot more interesting while still "playing it safe"

To be fair the side villains in 3 and 4 weren't particularly interesting, at least compared to Vaas/Min. They had moments but they were similarly one note and kind of dully driven. It's also just kind of a losing proposition, you can't keep striking gold every time when you focus so much into the main villain, the odds are too long.
