My assault fleet sails into Milne bay bringing death with them. The PT boats make a break for it. One catches a shell and explodes. Hopefully my bombers will now focus on the tankers, not the escort. Two is a good haul! The Anzio catches a couple of torpedoes. One less CVE to worry about. That was a nice day! Hitting the Anzio at night meant all her planes were on deck, and went down with her. She was only an escort carrier though. While a nice kill, her loss will not change the course of the war one bit.

If you're insane you could easily bombard the Port Morsby airfield since you're already at Milne Bay. e: If I were you I would be running express high explosive delivery to PM like 2 or 3 times a week.

Plus you can sink whatever shipping is at PM after the bombardment.

I dunno how many turns of buffer you have built up, Grey, but unless all the battleships have been sunk between now and the end of the buffer, you totally have to start running them at PM until they do get sunk. (They're all going to be horribly destroyed tomorrow, aren't they?)

Shouldn't the BBs be tasked on attacking all the troops that landed on that island just north of Rabaul? It's right there.

I've got a few more things to deal with, and I've run turns to the 30th, but I'll definitely try the bombardment mission. Thought I think it's Port Arthur that's stacked with planes, and its mined IIRC. I'll do some research once I boot the game up again.

Another raiding force goes north of Rabaul and finds another tanker. Annoyingly, her escort gets a torpedo off and the Kongo takes a hit. We hit one of the tankers. A random ship takes a random bomb hit. There is a second lucky torpedo hit as I raid Kwajalin. We do murder the patrol boats, but I think the enemy has come out on top here. The PT boats sacrifice gives the main allied task force time to escape. Well, most of them. This makes the raid worthwhile in itself. We hit some tightly packed troop ships out of nowhere and kill near six thousand allied troops! The slaughter continues. The killing just doesn't stop! My biggest worry now is that my son will wake before I have time to document all of this! This is beyond my wildest dreams. How do they still have any ammo left? Finally they begin their withdraw, on the way out, they sink another patrol boat for good measure. I can only imaging the captain going “Eh, we have one shell left, lets use it.” “Don't forget about us.” go the subs. I sit exhausted and slack jawed at my computer screen. We gained 323 points on the allies today. That's 18 confirmed sinkings, with about the same number damaged with no hope of crossing the Pacific safely.

Ehhh, even the DD loss really isn't that significant. Asanagi is an obsolescent-to-obsolete Kamikaze-class destroyer from the mid-20s, as opposed to something valuable. It really shouldn't even be part of a main battle fleet. As for that utter slaughter, hahahaha, really what else is there to say? The wolves are in the sheep pen, and the shepherds are off snoozing somewhere.

Jesus Christ the Americans are going to tie FDR to the bow of a troop transport then sail it into the Tokyo Bay Fortress. What the gently caress is this world going to look like after the war? Assuming baseline Ally competency in the various European theaters, I'm assuming the USSR is going to cover most of Europe, except Spain and maybe France (and no way Franco doesn't decide he was actually a Communist all along), as resources get diverted from western Europe to the pacific and thus the Red Army wins the race to Berlin handily and then keeps going. The USA are going to go full fascist after this, no questions asked, and I have no clue what the UK will do.

I think FDR has already declared that he's not going to run for POTUS in this timeline. If anything, ships and material in Europe's going to just stay in Europe because transfer to the Pacific is apparently a death sentence here.

So eighteen confirmed dead Allied ships (admittedly over ten are PT Boats), possibly another 15-20 heavily damaged that could sink, 6000 dead in transports (Which is more than taking Kwaejelin in the first place took).. For one old Destroyer. How elite /are/ your raiders at this point?
