That article struck me as more damning of everybody who was around it and said nothing for all those years, given that John K has a reputation even among casual animation fans as "Oh yeah, that guy's a total creep." Every revelation in that Buzzfeed piece was simultaneously shocking in its content and the least surprising thing imaginable, given his reputation and general vibe. (I recall reading something about his "mentorship" of young women in the field well over a decade ago that soured me on him forever, but I'll be damned if I can remember what it was.) Dude must be amazingly charismatic in person, though, to inspire that kind of loyalty. To convince people who are working on The Ripping Friends to think "This is groundbreaking, important stuff; stuff that's going to make my career! I should probably just keep my mouth shut about him showing me those photos of unconscious teen girls and/or his genitals."

I can't speak about the money issues, but another thing to keep in mind is that most cartoons made in the 1980s...sucked. And the people working on them knew that. Many were desperate to work in something that they can be proud of, and when John K. provided opportunity for them to work on something that isn't whatever garbage Filmation or DiC or Hanna-Barbera was making GBS threads out, they went to him in droves. Since it's all gag-a-day with no ongoing story, I wanted to wait until there was a decent amount of archive to visit before I shared it here. And right now I'm living in the future with new comics set to auto-post through the end of April. So if I die tomorrow, you all can still have some chuckles and poo poo. At least for a month. There's a bare-bones RSS (based on the advice from this thread). It needs some visual cleanup (for RSS aggregators that show images), but it works well enough for now.

I guess Kickstarter isn't technically paying to pre-order a book, but it seems like a big leap from drawing a webcomic with licensed characters and soliciting donations to actually crowdfunding the publication of books starring licensed properties you don't own.

Sometimes I look again at Dangerously Chloe to see if it's still a thing that exists, and every time I do it's become even more insane somehow. And somehow this is all a spinoff from their school about high-school vampires, which, I am pretty sure, wasn't supposed to be semi-pornography when they started doing it.
