Trades are for those with time. Unfortunately, the Otters have none. Instead, I'll draft 1906 Jack Taylor. And pray that someone on my team can throw a baseball.

MARK DEATH RESULTS
1.) Rolled a 5 on the success/failure roll, meaning he successfully injured Yogi Berra
2.) Rolled a 1 on the 1d6+1 roll, meaning he injured Yogi Berra for 2 days
3.) The Marmosets start this week with a day off, and their next starter is SP5, caught by Buck Ewing.
4.) Mark Death successfully made Yogi Berra have a bad time on the 2 days he'd have had off anyway.

WEEK 17: MARK DEATH MAKES YOGI BERRA'S ROOM SERVICE LATE
Editor's Note: I'm moving to a new city in a couple days, and we're packing up the house in a month. All my stuff, including the computer that I run Mogul on, will be on storage until sometime during the Dispersal Draft. As such, Shepard will be splitting updates with me (weekends me, weekdays him) for the next month. My thanks to him. As much as I grumble, I really love this league and community and I appreciate all y'all's willingness to help and participate. Namaste.

Game of the Weak:

OldMcDonald posted:

CHAPTER IX - THE GREAT DEAL (ROUND IV)

"Alright, so are we getting close to a deal you might be willing to take?" The Marauder spirit, speaking through BallisticClipboard, was trying, and succeeding, to hide its aggravation.
"Well, I still think I'm getting ripped off a bit here. So, let's see... alright, I think you throw in Elvis Andrus and Jonathan Broxton... and I'll give you Derek Lowe to fill that hole in your bullpen, and I think we can do that deal!" The Goog clasped his hands together, for he does enjoy a good trade.
"OK, so, to recap: I give you Albert Pujols, Wade Boggs, Jered Weaver, Kenley Jansen, C.J. Wilson, Elvis Andrus, Jonathan Broxton, Brian Robers, the entirety of the 2008 Giants, this baseball bat I found, the vial of poison I have, a tea kettle, a wrench, some duct tape, Adrian Beltre, exclusive rights to using the kitchen over in the back, my first round Super-Draft pick, the next three Dispersal Draft picks my team has, with the caveat that this extends to future teams if my current team dies before the three picks are traded, and three dollars and forty-seven cents in change. In exchange, you give me Barry Bonds, Lou Gehrig, Jack Powell, Joe Wood, Johnny Bench, Emil Gross, Ramiro Mendoza, a chainsaw, an axe, exclusive rights to the dining room over to the left, your first round Super-Draft pick, your life, your third round Super-Draft pick, the next two Dispersal Draft picks your team has, with the caveat that this does not extend to future teams if your current team dies before the two picks are traded, a pistol, a magazine, your remaining 2016 Blue Jays, Derek Lowe, and a one dollar bill. Furthermore, the only thing of this trade that will take place immediately is those parts that don't involve players or draft picks. Do you agree to this trade?" BallisticClipboard were astonished that the Marauder spirit could keep track of all that, but they figured that if they were able to keep track of five different personae, keeping track of a highly complicated trade was simple.
"Yeah, works for me." The Goog was clearly not paying attention, or he would have noticed a particular item in that list that should've made him step back from this trade, but alas, he extended his hand. As BallisticClipboard's hand joined The Goog's hand, Goog proceeded to immediately drop dead.
"...wow, that was impressive. I had no idea that would actually work." BallisticClipboard spoke to themselves.
"It's an old trick I worked out one day, but never found a reason to use it - killing an owner by having them literally trade their life away was always too open for my personal tastes. But for this situation, it was quite ideal." BallisticClipboard then said with the voice of Marauder. "Well, no sense in dilly-dallying. Onwards." BallisticClipboard then picked up the chainsaw and pocketed the pistol, then made their way on to continue exploration.

---

FairGame was speechless at what he had just witnessed. The mysterious voice decided to take that moment to chime in. "You know, I had no idea that was a thing either. Just goes to show Marauder knows all the tricks of the league and then some. He always was a special owner... there's probably quite a few of us that couldn't even compete against a fraction of him."
That statement caught FairGame's attention. "Wait, 'us'? Does that mean you're an owner yourself?" There was no response from the voice afterwards.
The silence spoke louder than any actual response, and it got FairGame to really start thinking. This somewhat reduced the circle of suspects if the voice was some sort of owner. But who could it be? Could it be a division rival, like DannoMack or Shepard? Shepard in particular seemed like he'd have something like this in him - he never did seem to take the jokes about being one of FairGame's alt accounts well. Could he be trying to usurp the Sub-Par League from him? But why would somebody actually *want* to run this league, it's a ton of busywork with no real payoff. And what was about that motive the voice told him in the beginning - that about avenging the players caught in the crossfire of this cycle of death and rebirth, ended only by the eternal void? Was that actually an honest answer or just a front? And if it is just a front, what is the actual reasoning here, and who could be behind it? FairGame tried to think of all of those that would have something out for him - TheMcD or Armitage, for enforcing stadium rules that weakened their teams? The aforementioned division rivals? Maybe even CaptainYesterday, in order to secure survival? Did he perhaps make enemies in his time as Commissar?
...it was pointless wracking his brain over this. He simply didn't have enough information to make a call on this. He returned to watching the security monitors, trying to see if there was anything he could find that would help him escape.

---

One would think that being trapped in a situation where you have to murder people to survive would already be taxing enough without having rivals of your past agonizing you. And while gingemidget had absolutely nothing against the murdering part, the part where spirits of ForeverBFWC and CFBalla were agonizing him was something he could have absolutely done without. And yet, here he was. He was trying to figure out how exactly he was going to deal with the situation he was in, but no, he was busy arguing with two ghosts. He figured that they were both signs of his growing insanity, so he attempted to argue them out of existence. It wasn't something that had a high chance of success, but he had to try, simply because there was no way he was going to get anything done with these two bastards in his ear.
"Alright, so, listen here, you two figments of my imagination..." gingemidget started to speak, but was cut off by CFBalla.
"What makes you so sure we're figments of your imagination?" CFBalla then proceeded to throw a vase off a table and onto the floor, causing it to shatter - doing so from the other side of the room, to boot. "Could a figment of your imagination do that?"
gingemidget was unimpressed by that. "Well, yes. If you're a figment of my imagination, that means my perception is being altered. And if my perception is being altered, then a vase just falling off of a table and shattering is entirely within the realm of possibility."
"That's an unfair situation, then, because if you're just going to ascribe everything to your insanity, then anything is possible and there's no way for us to prove anything else to you!" ForeverBFWC was aggravated at gingemidget's line of arguing.
CFBalla then decided to change his approach. "If you're going to be like that, then I'll come right out with it. I'm not in your head - the spirits of those that faced the Macho Men roam this area. However, old 'BFWC over here is entirely in your head. He's the personification of your eternal regrets over never truly being able to deal with the W's. I'm just here to gently caress with you."
gingemidget sighed. "I hate you."
"I know." CFBalla replied. "That's what makes it fun."
"So, do I at least have a way to get rid of him then?" gingemidget pointed towards the spirit of ForeverBFWC. "You're just here to be a prick, I get that, but this guy is here because of some problem in my head. You're a loving doctor, at least make yourself useful for once."
"If you're going to ask..." CFBalla materialized a white coat and glasses on top of his regular attire. "Ultimately, treating this condition is going to be connected to dealing with the core trauma. In your case, the trauma is caused through repeated seasons of failure to destroy the Eazy W's. As such, you will need to deal with this trauma in one of two ways. You can either come to terms with your incapability of dealing with the W's and turn it into something you no longer care about, which I presume is not an option, or you could indeed destroy the W's, turning this into a non-issue. And, well, as long as I'm running the team, I don't think I'm going to let that happen."
"And, do I have any sort of short-term option?" gingemidget was not pleased by this turn of events.
"Nope. You're stuck with him." CFBalla's answer was short and succinct.
"Bloody hell." gingemidget took a look over to ForeverBFWC, who was content making assorted faces at gingemidget, exploiting his non-corporeal status. "This is going to be an issue."

Things were looking up for CirclMastr. He had found an axe laying next to some guy's dead body - though he was somewhat perplexed by the fact that the body had no visible injuries or anything that would point towards how he died, but he figured he shouldn't really think about it - and now he was standing in a room with a guy that was patently not doing anything. While this might be cause for alarm, in that this could be some sort of trap, CirclMastr simply figured that he had gotten a lucky break, and was going to score a free kill. So he simply smacked his axe straight into the guy's head. Surprisingly enough, there wasn't even a reaction from the guy - seems he was incredibly committed to doing nothing. Not that CirclMastr particularly cared. He gave the now twitching body of his victim a few good whacks, and then there was no more movement. For a moment, he considered whether he was a bad person for simply walking in and taking an axe to some guy's head, especially given that the guy was not posing any active threat, but he quickly dismissed that thought on account of this situation being basically war. Just another day on the job, really.

And with that body turning lifeless, the large speaker in the room sprung to life, and the mysterious voice started talking through it. "Alright, folks, it's time to get really excited, because we're going into what might just be the final round! The last four Sub-Par League owners will be engaging our three survivors until only three remain! Our new contestants will be TKBomber7285 of the Everett Eagles, Zodiac5000 of the South Dakota Marmosets, mrnoun of the Luna Landers, and JR Leap of the Olympia Owlbears! We have not just one, but two former Super-League champions joining the fray, but I'm sure those of you that have survived have your own advantages over those, so don't lose heart!" After that, the speaker once again went silent. CirclMastr proceeded to wipe the blood and brain off the axe. He was so close - just a bit more, and he'd have won.

Just a bit more.

This is the other danger of Mark Death: not only does he sometimes not work, and not work well when he does work, but you have to roster him. And the AI saw fit to bring him in in a super high leverage spot. It worked out here for some reason, but yeah. I get why TheMcD traded for someone else to deal with the backbiting. I also get why Tadashi did it since he doesn't have to worry about Mark Death in the gauntlet.

Despair will never let you down.
Malice will never disappoint you.

Bah! loving Marmosets.

Pick'Em: Champs retain.

Sid Gordon was supposed to go on the bench. Not in the lineup. Anyway:

- Sid Gordon goes to the minors to make room for the drafted Doerr, who goes to the bench.
- Gary Sheffield goes into the RF spot in the lineup.
- Platoon Banks with Tulo.

Also, preliminary Mark Death setting: Put up Ted Williams to go after the Marmosets' Stan Musial. Let's go in with a large shot this time.
