Everybody knows Miraculous S2 drops tomorrow (or tonight at midnight PST) right? 12 or 13 new episodes all but one (or two) of which have already been released somewhere outside the US. Gonna try to watch it in episode order, it’ll be interesting to see their playlist given how mixed up it was with the numbering in France/Spain/everywhere else.

In that article itself, two of the artists who worked there were literally shown an album of child porn and just said "gross" and ignored it, never mentioning to anyone. And two of them STILL were trying real hard to praise him, with one of them even saying if he won an award, he would dedicate to him, despite what he knew. God.

Dan Schneider was working for Nick continuously since '94 until now. Savino was a creator for a much more recent show.

It feels like they were totally OK with this behavior as long as said gross men were bringing the ratings. Which in some ways is as bad as the abuse, because they propped up an entire culture of abuse that affected multiple generations.

Schneider was the creative face of their live-action sitcom division for over a decade, taking credit for launching the careers of Ariana Grande and Victoria Justice and plenty of others. They only let him go at his contract expiration because he hadn't created a hit show in a while, and the allegations were getting too big to ignore. John K. burned a million bridges and gave them countless reasons to fire him, but he also made Ren and Stimpy a massive hit, and I almost guarantee "has a creepy underage fetish" never came up in the exit interview. They didn't get rid of Savino until Loud House became enough of a juggernaut that changing showrunners could be read as good PR.

Children's television in general is just skeevy as gently caress -- the whole thing is built upon layers of complicity, and looking the other way, and countless ruined lives. We're seeing Nick people get the brunt of #MeToo right now, but I also shudder to think of whatever skeletons Disney managed to shove in the closet.

I've known for a long time that John K is a massive creep who pervs on his "interns" but I didn't realize he was an out-and-out child molester, what the gently caress

It's kind of absurd how much goodwill people gave him over what was essentially just 12 episodes of a TV show. John K has always sucked but he got lucky and was in the right place at the right time for Ren & Stimpy, then he spent the rest of his career coasting on that and building a cult following by being one of the only big name animators at the time to have a major online presence and interact with fans regularly.

Yeah, it's the same with webcomics (Paranatural, Gunnerkrigg Court & Bad Machinery all fit that mold, and I'm sure there's many others). Having actual supernatural stuff allows for more action scenes, I guess.

Which is a shame, since you could still have more 'mundane' mysteries and get those kind of action scenes (Fillmore & its glorious police procedural pastiche leaps to mind).

Also helps that they aren't constrained by budget, marketing, censorship and formula.

Seems a lot of shows these days are mixing up old formulas, even besides the whole 'ongoing continuity' thing; adults, kids and teenagers can regularly interact and be protagonists and have agency on their own right, instead of one age group being the focus of the show and the rest being background, villains or comic relief. Which makes the whole 'teenagers/kids solving mysteries' thing just look all the sillier.

Then again, it's kind of a throwback. I'm not sure if Johnny Quest was ahead of its time, or just taking inspiration from the old Scrooge McDuck comics and the like with adventuring families before marketing demographics compartmentalised everything.

I'm about to finish it (only 10 eps which is surprising), the guy doing Megabyte is actually decent. He's got the cadence right which is the most important part.

Ep 10 spoilers: Episode 10 brings back the original cast in what I can only call a petty Ghostbuster 2016 level of jab at fans of the original. There is a live action sequence of a man with nothing but ReBoot paraphernalia in a room who jumps up and down that "Mainframe is back after 20 years" who then proceeds to pull out a 360 game case with a game from the original series and then tries to murder the original cast in it.

I'd give the whole thing a 4/10, it's not bad enough to ruin my childhood and it's not good enough to be memorable. Give it a year and people will forget it even came out.

No they don't, Megabyte breaks into an "old area" that turns out to be a turned off Mainframe, Vera the robot girl who all the guys hit on starts beeping and walking around in the real world. She finds an old "Mainframe" right behind their teleporter, they somehow have never been back there(it's literally 3 feet behind the teleporter, how have you not seen it?) and turn it on. Mainframe boots back up and BOB shows up and does nothing but spouts catch phrases. Dot and Enzo are there too, they do nothing. Episode ends with Bob and Dot "kissing" (I don't know what to actually call it). Megabyte and Hexadecimal team up to take over the real world. Also Frisket is heard but never shown.

E: Still wanna say this is bad and I'm surprised that a tv station picked this up.

To elaborate some, it's season 1 Mainframe. When they meet Bob he literally just does the intro speech ("I come from the net..."), with Dot and Enzo just sort of there. Hex is still alive in her season 1 form and there's no mention at all of anyone else. They wind up getting caught in a game with Bob, which turns out to be Starship Alcatraz, being played by the User, a neckbeard with Reboot merch all over his basement room. Their powers don't work and they can't reboot so they help Bob win by recalling a cheat code they learned when they played the game as users. During this, Megabyte recruits Hecadecimal and escapes while Dot and Enzo stand around doing nothing.

I liked that they got all the original VAs they could, and they even had Kathleen Barr, Dot's VA, appear as a Siri analogue in a previous episode.
