I have a better idea: let’s imprison or deport all the neoliberals and their lackeys instead, and shut down their gathering places (CCIs, boards of directors, etc.)

Holy poo poo that's awful on so many levels. I can't imagine surviving the loving Shoah only to be stabbed to death by some shithead in a loving HLM :(

Seriously there is nothing about that murder case that doesn't smell like poo poo. The two perpetrators(one of them is the victim's neighbor) literally murdered a disabled 85 years old woman in her bed using a knife (11 stabs) and felt the need to set her apartment on fire. Even without the antisemitism charges (one of the two claims that the other murmured "Allahou akbar" after murdering her), they are in jail for 30+ years without parole and just should be happy we do not use the guillotine anymore. Surprise, piece of shits that murder a disabled old lady are also antisemitic assholes.

AFAIK she had reported to the police having received death threats before.

One of the aggressor, the neighbor, was just fresh out of prison, and you know why he was there in the first place? For sexually molesting the 12-year-old daughter of Mireille Knoll's live-in nurse, in Knoll's apartment.

Can't say I want to be in this guy's shoes when he's stuck for 30 years with a lovely PS4 that doesn't even get updates though

e; In other islamic lols:

quote:

Glad the police is on top of this :france:

I went to the consulate yesterday to pick up my passport, and the lady asked for "Madame Em-Seintire"

My last name is ******

That was definitely a new one, especially seeing as totally Scottish last names aren't entirely unheard of here in the heart of Anglophone Canada.

Yeah i have an Italian name and from time to time people pronounce my S as if they were Z like i am from Sicily. I have also seen people rewrite my final O into -eau. My name do sound like some backward French town name (it's actual a hamlet lost in the middle of emilia-romagna, so close enough).

This is basically TV's version of "Press F to pay respects", but worse because it's about a real person instead of a fictional character.

Looks like my mayor has admitted to some serious corruption. Seems our taxes went to serve his self-proclaimed gambling addiction.

I still can't vote but it does make me wonder what sort of back-lash this will produce in our town.

What's the MRC?

I probably shouldn't be so indifferent, but being disenfranchised doesn't really motivate one to pay attention to local elections. On the plus side I'll be applying for citizenship this summer. If I can teach your kids, I'm pretty sure I can vote.

Yeah, much like Toplowtech said, it’s a weird right-wing chapel of the Socialist Party dedicated to maverick Chevènement, a dude so old that when he ran for president back in 2002 iirc, he was mocked on the basis that he was a candidate for the dead, the living and the living dead.

Are you European? Because if you are you can already vote in our local and EU elections.

Thanks for the info. There's so much political history to learn and keep track of just in the 5th republic let alone France's history as a whole.

To be more clear, in 2002, they were running alongside young gaullists and royalists in their small "republican" group. Of course the rats quit the sinking ship when he called to vote socialist during the following parliamentary elections.

I am regrettably still in the US. The one upside about this country's complete lack of global awareness is that you can convince people of bloody near anything, and everyone already thinks that the French are all cheese-eating socialists who do nothing all day but shag each other senseless. I could convince them that every single university student in a country of nearly 70 million is on strike right now just as easily as I could convince them that the ghost of DeGaulle (who they wouldn't know anyway) came back from the dead and is currently walking around Tours on his hands while spreading rose petals and friendship.

Edit: Typo

Not really surprising. I've always wanted to see massive labour strikes here to shake people up a bit and stick it to our corporate overlords, but I already know that the public reaction would be to blame the strikers. Nobody here gives a gently caress if thousands and millions are being horribly exploited, has no health care and can't even feed themselves without government assistance; they just don't want to be inconvenienced. If you have a horrible job then it's your fault for being lazy and stupid and not spending enough time sucking up to a probably non-existent and certainly arbitrary God until he makes you poo poo money.
