Literally the entire rest of the industry uses plain cheap pvc and those cables never go bad. they’re not made with rubber for a wide variety of reasons, including the fact that ~5% of the population has some form of sensitivity to latex. PVC is less flexible than you think, cracks easily, can be damaged more easily when exposed to sunscreen, and the manufacturing of involves a lot of Not Very Good chemicals.

I have no tablet and might be travelling a lot internationally soon. Should I just buy that new ipad or is something else a better idea? I'd potentially use the music apps you can get on ios, but not on android.

i mean, a mini would be cool for travel but just get a normal ipad and heck a cheap keyboard and make it a laptop at that point so you can do whatever i got this for my air 1 and it is fine but also apparently not in grey anymore https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NOUKGE8 im sure you can find it in whatever as its a generic oem keyboard with branding

i used to use my ipad all the time, but i eventually just got frustrated at it because that generation (the 3rd) just didn't ship with enough ram to be reasonably future-proof, which is the sort of bullshit that we deserve to get called out for i'll probably get a pro after the next refresh

i am tempted by apple pen, I think it could be good but new ipad or ipad pro? as far as concerned the ONLY difference I care about is literal space between display and glass and ipad (not pro) having couple mm might make different to feeling "real" and hence worthwhile

it's not so much the touchbar being bad, it's the rest of the computer that is bad. non-upgradable, non-repairable flimsy donglebook. If they released an external desktop touchbar and touch ID USB keyboard I might consider buying it though. Just keep the escape key physical, idiots. Or better yet, leave the F-key row alone and place the touchbar as an additional row above them.

touchbar sucks because literally every other part of the keyboard is about pushing buttons, so you can rest your fingers on them or just touch them without any input. it's two completely different modes of input right next to each other
