Once you run out of planes/pilots, just convert the carriers back to their originally intented state of glorious cruisers/battlecruisers/battleships/tourist traps.

Then we can finally say that the carrier idea was fun but ultimately unsustainable.

screenshots showed 33 out of 53 recorded air-to-air losses, so you're again missing 20 losses. It's a worrying discrepancy, I hope we're not missing a major air engagement somewhere...

No, just a few smaller ones. I can't be arsed to show spitfires shoot down 1 plane five times.

Ah, fair enough, although it does seem like there's been a significant uptick in air-to-air losses even if you account for the engagements you've been showing. I feel like the allies must be getting good replacement and supplies to their land-based air in the southeast pacific now.

Kamikazes are activated if the Allies own a base within 21 hexes (traced by sea only) of either Tokyo, Takao or Saigon anytime after 1 Jan 1944.

I mean in fairness it would presumably be beyond the game's capabilities (and confusing as hell) to up and change the ship's name in the middle of the game like it was in real life.

If you go to the ship reinforcement page, you can edit at least some of the ship names. In my current game, I edited all the Essex class hulls that were renamed for casualties back to their original names.

:spergin:

(And then proceeded to lose Yorktown and Hornet, take serious damage to Lexington and Enterprise, and get all five airgroups THOROUGHLY fuckered in a shittier, less successful battle of the Coral Sea. :v:)

If Grey Hunter makes it to 1946 they will send the USS Falluja.

edit: Grey, can you post an overall map of the war? You didn't put that in the monthly recap and I'm having trouble visualizing how far out the hero raiders were from Rabaul. And if you can give a map of the ground war in China that would be super nice.

I'm an alien.

Jokes aside how does the Tokyo Bay Fortress stack up in comparison to other shore defenses in the game? Given it's name I'd assume it has some pretty heavy artillery but I've never seen it in action in any of the AAR's I've read.

IIRC the only ships you can rename in the stock game without dipping into the scenario editor are ships that were historically renamed (Hornet-II, Yorktown-II, Wasp-II etc.) or, as Japan with full economy mode on, ahistorical ships like a second Taiho or 3rd Yamato (Shinano cannot be constructed into a battleship as originally planned).

The Allies are using their air cover to move through the Bismark sea with ease.

My god, a Helen hit something!

We claim a couple more Liberator kills.

Okay, I admit it, I sent the raiders back to look for the damaged CVE's... I have a surface raiding problem. Sinking an AA cruiser is going to save me a lot of planes in the long run though!

It's fine, it's not like I wanted any veteran pilots anyway....

I would have only spent them needlessly somewhere else.

I'm so glad no one is bombing my factories....

Our twice torpedoed hero sinks, but I think we made up for it today.

We see a heavy cruiser, but she runs from us.

Head for home dammit, you've done enough!

Our ASW patrol finds landing ships. It makes no difference to them.

A surface attack goes bad when the enemy has the gall to shoot back!

We gun down some lone enemy planes.

The Lightnings arrive and mess us up.

Sigh. It's okay, I know what has to be done.
GERONIMO!!!!
There, back to normal service.

We sink an escort and most likely a tanker too.

Those fighters over Rabaul are killing my pilots in droves!

Things are still going my way though.

The KB goes to rescue them, but they end up 3 hexes out from Rabaul.

During the 3 days to move 3 hexes the combined super fleet sinks every USN Battleship and Carrier because the AI sends the carriers in to fight at knife range.

The Queen Elizabeth sinks the Musashi in a suicide run reminiscent of The Last Jedi.

No. CLAA was a post war designation used to refer to the Atlantas.
