I’d never heard ‘snag in a rag’ before but I’m in favour. Rhymes, rolls off the tongue, sounds Australian in an appropriately slangy and low-class way, and is for once an accurate description of the loving item (with a splash of poetry as a bonus). ‘Democracy sausage’ is another good one because everyone agrees on it. We just need to extend its use beyond election times. Lots of cultures have foods associated with events and special days, so it feels natural — but Australia might be the only culture where elections are one of those special events, which is rad, and something to be proud of all year round, why not.

Also if any of them were actually educated they'd know that language changes and evolves constantly unless it's a dead language (ie, latin). Yesterday's slang is tomorrow's dictionary definition. But people should ignore me because I want to see this argument evolve to the particulars of what counts as bread.

A chip butty is a sandwich. A sausage sandwich is not a sandwich, even though it has sandwich in the name.
