Or d) they escape (possibly with help from the Sun pirates) with wounds that they and the Sunny can ultimately recover from, but severe enough to teach them a parting lesson that they still aren't ready to take down an emperor, and set a sombre tone for their arrival into Wano.

Maybe Sunny ends up being salvaged by Big Mom's crew and they have to go back later to rescue it. We know how much pathos Oda can wring out boats in peril.

I'm rereading some of the older chapters for this arc and it's cracking me up that Big Mom, with what we all know she can do now, is telling Luffy 'nah dawg, you ain't killing Kaido no way no how' When the Sunny hits 88 knots towards Wano we are gonna see some serious poo poo
