Dumb question, I have a Nanoleaf Aurora, which is basically this thing:

Could it affect my tracking as one of my sensors can see it? I was getting the occasional tracking bug in SkyrimVR. Also does anyone know a good lighting mod compatible with SkyrimVR? I'd like to be able to have the nights be actually dark.

Reflective surfaces affect both Vive and Rift.
Cover it up and see if it goes awy.

Thank you to whoever recommended Sairento VR. It is a lot of fun dashing about and murdering goons with katanas and SMG's, and it's nowhere near as motion-sickness-inducing as I thought it would be (I was perfectly fine the entire session playing it).

Pro-tip for other players; You're much less likely to smash your Vive wands on things if you hold the katana in a reverse-grip :ninja:.

I'm playing Skyrim with free movement and I like it. My strategy for dealing with spiders so far was to make my housecarl kill them for me which seems appropriate.

As far as Bethesda jank goes though I had to reload my save because I couldn't get off my horse once. I tried everything and then googled it and nothing worked.

I haven't bought Skyrim VR yet, but this was always a problem for me in pancake. "Well, I'll just give this stuff to Lydia... where is she?" then having to go back through my save games until I found one where the companion was still following me and restart from there.

Use the Inigo mod companion. Aside from being the best companion [never breaks your concealment, can lockpick for you, relatively non-annoying dialogue] the mod also comes with a map-marker for him so you can see where he got stuck, and get him to you.

It's primarily a porn game, so yeah.

And the source of some hilarious webms where the player character is so pathetic they can't even play the porn game properly.

They should reappear if you fast-travel to a new location. If they don't, they're dead. And if they're dead, it's because you killed them! This happens to me when they charge out in front of me while I'm attacking and suffer friendly-fire.

I've gotten a lot more careful about stopping my attacks when Lydia decides to sprint out front. If she doesn't show up for a while, I do get nervous that I might have killed her without knowing about it.

Oh, I guess I didn't see the bodies. :smith: I haven't played Skyrim in so long I forgot followers could die.

fake edit: I should have just looked at the wiki:

quote:

When your follower would die to an enemy attack or a trap, they will be incapacitated for some time and begin to recover their health, just like essential NPCs; enemies will stop attacking or targeting them during this time. However, if they lose all their health again during this period, they will die for good. Thus, you should try to move the fight away from them, so that they are not hit by a stray arrow or area-effect spell. They can also die if hit with a damage-over-time poison that is stronger than their health recovery. They can also die from enemy power-attacks.

So theres a really simply mod that allows you to speak the dialogue options now. It works really well if you train Windows Voice Recognition at least 3 times, its incredibly fun to use and unbelievably embrassing to witness. It might be my favorite mod so far.

When it comes to VR immersion, this has to be one of the best elements implemented in a game, and its the perfect game for it. Given how quick this mod was released, Im hoping other devs take notice and begin to put it in upcoming games.

Reportedly works better with Rift than Vive due to mic quality.

So I ran the steam diagnostic and it says my desktop is close to being able to run VR :toot: The RAM and CPU are fine, but the graphics card is "Capable" of running VR, but not withing the recommended range. Any suggestions for a graphics card upgrade that isn't super expensive? Doesn't need to be top of the line, but something that shouldn't struggle with VR stuff at moderate settings.

Get a GTX 970 for best base VR specs. Thats what my VR rig was built on and it handled mostly everything pretty well. I got upgraded to a 1060 on an RMA and its a great upgrade but a 970 worked great.

This seems like terrible advice, even given prices on graphics cards lately. You can even get the 1060 you mention for about the same price.

I've got a GTX 770 right now, so it definitely can stand an upgrade. I don't need something super strong, just strong enough to run VR reasonably well. Just figured I'd ask here in case people have some cards that are a year or two old and still work well, since I assume I could get those for a much more reasonable price than the brand-new stuff that crypto miners have jacked the price up on.

I'm with Phenotype then, a 1060 would be fine and a 1070 seems to be the sweet spot for the Vive and Rift but the prices have yet to recover from crypto. I've heard a lot of people now have had luck getting ones direct from nVidia and eVGA now that Bitcoin and Ethereum are in the shitter.

The 6GB 1060 will hold up for a lot longer than the 3GB, mind you, but I think the prices on the 3GB model have dropped further because some crypto blockchains have grown too big to hold them in 3GB of RAM. I've heard that as the minimum graphics card if you want decent performance without hiccups. Going further than that is up to you and your wallet -- I've been really happy with my 1080 Ti if you want to spend that much, but be aware that Nvidia's new line of graphics cards are coming out in September or October, so you might want to wait til then if you're going top-of-the-line. The 970 is a model from last generation, and not even the top performing model at that, so it seems kinda silly to invest in tech that's about to be two generations old.

Has anyone played Raw Data? It's 50% off today, and it was one of the games I was looking at during the Anniversary Sale, but it never went down that far.

Thanks for the info! A 6gb 1060 is $350 on newegg, which is pretty reasonable. The 1070 is tempting, but is a big jump up to $500. Is the jump in price worth it? I'm not super interested in top of the line since that's a bit out of my price range, although it might be worth waiting for the price on the 1070 (or other cards) to drop? I'm not sure how much they usually go down by.

From all reports it's not worth the money and has issues including becoming uncomfortable over longer sessions, so maybe you're dodging a bullet? I've seen more than one review saying the resolution is nice but they're not going to use it. I was waiting for one and I ended up going with the Rift and resigning myself to maybe upgrading sometime next year when there'll be new controllers and a high-res headset at a sane price and with the kinks ironed out.

Skyrim is cool because there are about 10 "main" questlines. Even if you don't want to do any sidequests at all you still have 150 hours of game at least to do the Main, Civil War, and Guilds quests.
