As someone who has never taken drugs this may seem a little naive but how does one take medicinal marijuana? If its smoked isn't that a little counter-productive to ones health? If its legalised would the AMA be able to dictate how its consumed? Cause it seems they may have some issues with smoking.

Wikipedia posted:

Smoking is the means of administration of cannabis for many consumers, and the most common method of medical cannabis consumption in the US as of 2013. It is difficult to predict the pharmacological response to cannabis because concentration of cannabinoids varies widely as there are different ways of preparing cannabis for consumption (smoked, applied as oils, eaten, infused into other foods, or drunk) and a lack of production controls. The potential for adverse effects from smoke inhalation makes smoking a less viable option than oral preparations.

Cannabis vaporizers have gained popularity because of the perception among users that less harmful chemicals are ingested when components are inhaled via aerosol rather than smoke.

Cannabinoid medicines are available in pill form (dronabinol and nabilone) and liquid extracts formulated into an oromucosal spray (nabiximols). Oral preparations are "problematic due to the uptake of cannabinoids into fatty tissue, from which they are released slowly, and the significant first-pass liver metabolism, which breaks down Δ9THC and contributes further to the variability of plasma concentrations".

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved smoked cannabis for any condition or disease as it deems evidence is lacking concerning safety and efficacy of cannabis for medical use. The FDA issued a 2006 advisory against smoked medical cannabis stating: "marijuana has a high potential for abuse, has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States, and has a lack of accepted safety for use under medical supervision."

That figure includes all tobacco imported into the country illegally including packets of tailors smuggled in and resold so that’s a pretty disingenuous number in this context my dude

And yet tobacco companies still survive and make a gently caress tonne of money in spite of it

Yes but it will be easier to put the taxation into the new thing as a federally regulated thing than like liquor which is state regulated and had a big mix of old legalisation.

Dimebag posted:

You tax the gently caress out of the initial seed purchase and any specialised or hydrophobic equipment? Wouldn't be as much revenue as selling through chemists but it would be better than the nothing they get now.

It would be but why miss out on the opportunity to cash in on taxing bassed on quantity sold as well. Hell we could work in some home made processing and get in on the medicinal market to help prop up the economy. Taxing the seeds is a good idea but it will be easy to avoid once you car people legally growing their own. Also taxing equipment is a bit too broad because other enterprise may want that kind of equipment.

That's a fair point, however in the article is talks about seizures of locally grown tobacco with ~$20 Million street value so while it may not be a cool billion it's still quite a chunk of lost tax revenue. That figure is only what has been found as well so not taking into account what else could be out there.

Like I said in an earlier post, if there is such a large part of the pot supply chain that is reliant on growing to stay off the streets why not use the coop business model to ensure those people are not put out on the street.

I can't have a couple of beer on weekends that I'm on call which sucks in major events where what I really want is a beer after the day is done but you never know if someone is going to call you up after you think your done and go "Man if you're free poo poo hit the fan again" at which point you fell like a right cock if you go "Uuh I can't."

Honestly I've only been tested once at work and once at the other thubf but a big part of it is about integrity. Like when you sign on part of the deal is you're declaring you have a BAC of 0 and no non-perscription drugs in your system. Also before starting ops you have to tell your superior if you're on prescription drugs incase they wish to reassign you.

vaporizing is more efficient than smoking also. you can run the same weed through a vape at varying temps to get more out of it, or cook edibles/make oils with the vaped stuff also.

Yep there are a multitude of intersex conditions which blur the lines of the biological sex binary. The 'you have to have M or F on the certificate!!!' mindset is what has caused scores of infants over the years to have unnecessary invasive procedures to align their body parts with the birth certificate. Lots of people have made it well into adulthood without knowing they are intersex, only to have it come up when they're trying to have kids.

You can consume cannabis in an infinite number of ways. E.g. tincture (out of vegetable glycerine) is good on ice cream

Or you can infuse coconut oil and use it in salad dressing

Or buttered toast and vegemite for breakfast

Etc etc

My point about the drug syndicate boogeyman thing is that the policy is half good and half bad, and the bad half is based on validating the boogeyman cliche.

Letting people grow their own cannabis is good. Fighting crime by turning the industry into a government monopoly is bad.

People take drugs to escape. "Prevention" comes from living in an equitable society where people are valued. Removing independence in the cannabis industry does not help prevention.

A government program funded by the cannabis industry to encourage people to not consume cannabis is some "be all you can be" straight-edge humanism nonsense.
