The best time I had living in China was in the central business district of the third biggest city surrounded mostly by foreigners and operating literally under the principal of extraterritoriality so don't knock it till you've tried it. Rich globetrotting expatriate bubbles can be great if you can surround yourself with non-insufferable people.

So the nearby Hui restaurant covered up the “Hui” part of their sign (in a really ridiculous, conspicuous way). Spotted tape covering the “halal” signs on other places. Getting real weird here lately.

To maintain a civil society (alternatively, to keep Trumpland from further degradating its rule of law), it's a good idea to keep out people who support that type of organization. More like to maintain civil society we need to tolerate billionaire foundations and their assorted NGOs but not actual socialism

Apparently for some reason being part of an organization associated with progressing the interests of a strategic adversary is something that would be noticed and taken into account if they applied for green cards or US citizenship. This is basically the same thing as the Chinese exclusion act.

Its not the kids fault who get roped into these things, but anyone who can be identified as being responsible for organizing them should seriously be reported to US immigration authorities and the FBI in the hopes they can be deported or disqualified from getting visas. Agents of foreign powers engaged in political or quasi-political activity have to register and disclose information. https://www.justice.gov/nsd-fara hakimashou fucked around with this message at 04:29 on Apr 20, 2018 |

sincx posted:I hope the people joining these cells know that being part of any communist party prevents getting a green card or citizenship. USCIS should keep tabs on their membership. In practice, Communist Party membership does not really stop people from getting an immigrant visa or any US permanent residency because there is an exception for people forced by circumstance to become a member of a totalitarian party. For example, if you need to be a party member to hold your job (which is almost always the case), you get an exception and can become a US permanent resident. There needs to be some really damning evidence that you are a true believer in totalitarianism for a 212(a) ineligibility R. Peven Stan, why would Chinese people go to an inferior and racist US university when they could experience greater academic and social freedom in any of the cutting edge Chinese universities?

And they pay international student fees with much higher cost of living fees and live away from their families.
