I'm thrilled I got my C.E. light off today, replaced my exhaust manifold with a new one, and got new tires mounted and balanced. Feeling pretty confident in my temporary reliability. Old Exhaust manifold; apparently this is a known issue in the 4.7L Dodge V8's. The header bolts heated and expanded into a hot mess that toasted the exhaust manifold and made my truck sound like a WW2 Abrams tank every time I accelerated. New shiny manifold; My mechanic/muffler guy had to weld out/in the old mess to even get the bolts out. The truck sounds perfect and amazing with just the flowmasters instead of bolts racketing around. New tires: 270's that came off a newer F250. The guy got these taken off with new wheels right after he bought the truck, and then threw them in storage. I got these 4 brand newish tires, and had them all mounted and balanced for only $150 total!! It takes a few days of cruising Craigslist and OfferUp, but when it comes to tires - that's where you can strike gold.

Put on some tunes and spent the day going through the imported Prado Land Cruiser I've got. Changed the oil, flushed the cooling system. Took the wheels off and went through the brakes, cleaning them, finding out that one of the retention clips for the front brakes was broken. Also was surprised to find rear discs waiting for me as I was expecting drums. Whoops! I lubed them back up and put it back together. On doing an indicator light check I noticed the left side indicator wasn't lighting up. Figuring it was a blown bulb I took the lens cover off. The bulb was still lit, it had just fallen out of the now very dead rubberized plastic base and was down in the fender. The other side was just as bad, would crumble if you touched it. 22 yen for complete replacements for each side so not a big deal. Put in an order for the OEM set of front pads as I know for sure it comes with the front clips I need, couldn't find out of any of the aftermaket options come with anything more than just the pads.

MY = model year. 5 year old rubber I wouldn't sweat it too much if there's no dryrot/cracking for daily use only. Towing, track time, or just heavy use I would probably get new by 5 years. E: oldest I've ever run was a set of Bridgestones that were 12 years iirc, had a whitewall stripe and everything. Pretty much brand new tread depth and not a hint of dry rot, but I still never drove it on the highway with those wheels. Bajaha fucked around with this message at 20:50 on Apr 26, 2018 |

KakerMix posted:gently caress yeah. i'm going to be sad if the front pads aren't everything I hope them to be and personally blame you and not take any responsibility for myself. Toyota essentially used the same axles in land cruisers for decades, most variation was in width and whether or not the diffs had lockers. There was a change in the 80s I think, but your front disc brakes should in theory be identical to any other cruiser from around the same year. E: For your Hilux, I don't know about the diesels specifically, but if it comes with the 4cyl model calipers, you should look into upgrading to the v6 model ones. It's an easy upgrade but you might need to change brake cylinders too. If you end up deciding to keep it, rear disc conversion is actually more cost-effective than continuing to run the rear drums, upgrading to a land cruiser brake cylinder is a must for this. As for your lack of personal responsibility, I can offer no guidance. Fermented Tinal fucked around with this message at 01:15 on Apr 27, 2018 |

Found her in the barn at my parents' farm earlier today. So covered in barn swallow poo poo and dirt and cobwebs it was barely recognizable as a car. Turned out to be a silver 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL GULLWING that's goddamn near immaculate. Just got done cleaning it. There's a few chips and wear marks in the paint but the body is RUST FREE . This is amazing for an Ontario car, probably a 1 in a billion kind of thing for this region. Passenger door opens too far, the mount on the body is a little bent but doesn't seem like it presents any real problem since the door closes and opens fine otherwise. 100% MINT red interior. This was covered in everything, including raccoon poop, a few shots with the old can of contact cleaner and it was back to being german perfection. Then I did something dumb, and rolled it: Fermented Tinal fucked around with this message at 03:23 on Apr 27, 2018 |

My tires were manufactured the year I joined SA. I keep waiting for a good sale to pop up so I can stop squealing my tires at every stop sign, but cheap, thin 14" tires are becoming pretty hard to come by, unless you're willing to buy sketchy Chinese tires Costco keeps teasing me with its constant deals on tires, but the only kind they ever have in my size are snow tires, regardless of season ExecuDork posted:I would like to know more about your pink convertible. That's the 3rd EZ out, by the way. 1 broke, 1 was stripped, and the 3rd finally completed the job. It took an hour to get the fucker out of my engine Luckily for me, I was planning to chop off most of my old, rattling exhaust anyways. There were a lot of metal shavings in that combustion chamber that my magnets couldn't get at, and I prefer to not think about them E: as a kicker, the reason I replaced the old, fouled spark plugs was because I finally changed out the faulty PCV valve that had been eating my fuel economy. After putting actual spark plugs into the spark plug holes, the brand new PCV valve broke while I reinstalled the air intake, so now my new ones will be fouled soon too All of my struggles were pointless The Door Frame fucked around with this message at 07:17 on Apr 27, 2018 |

The capri is a hateful car that soaks up every bit of hate you can throw at it and laughs at your feeble efforts to improve it in any way. I sincerely hope that the one my buddy owned has been melted down into a trash can so it can more accurately represent itself. Godspeed and good luck fixing that bastard. Given how much is nla and their rarity in the us, you'll need it for finding model specific parts. Changed the spark plugs on The Girl's 1997 Lumina. Like everything else on this car, what should have been quite simple turned into a tragicomedy. The engine is transverse, with 3 plugs up front and 3 in the back. And they're side-mounted. Between the engine and firewall. All facing different directions. So what you have to do is unbolt the front 2 engine mounts, hook a ratchet strap onto the engine lifting point and frame, and tilt the entire thing over. Ridiculous. Then, there's just barely enough room to access the rear plugs, although you can only go by feel. The plugs were toast. I'm guessing that it was the original set, with 150k miles. Starts instantly and runs much smoother now. I felt a little proud of myself; I didn't get super pissed off, and that's usually par for the course with this car. A couple of years ago this was an intimidating job that I didn't feel ready for, now it's just whatever. I could only curse GM and mutter "why would you do this?" while feeling my way through the job. Bonus: this is the first thing I've done on this car that didn't require penetrating fluid. Although I did have to use vice grips to get the extremely stuck plug wires off. I tried to use my phone in video mode as a mirror+light. What I ended up with was something resembling a sloppy, drunken robot sex tape.
