And I just registered the ham soup part and it was so confusing. I asked people about all day. Was it cream of ham? Or was it more like a ham broth? Like hot ham water. What would you do if you made ham soup?

In ye olde days if you had a ham it would contain a ham bone, and you wouldn't throw the bone away you'd use it to make a soup. Boil up that meaty bone, throw in some potatoes, carrots, or whatever the local people normally put in soup. Because the old days sucked and you had to wring every calorie you could out of anything edible.

Well they call fries chips so it's likely British, and they have back bacon which is way less fatty than American belly bacon, so I extra would.

suit yourself, but the back bacon pictured isn't cooked nearly enough as it's still pale with solid (chewy) fat bits attached.

Man if you don't drool at the description of food you just gave then I pity you for never having eaten a proper soup. Simmering a freshly carved bone in some water with aromatics and herbs for a few hours is one of the finest meals available.

Split pea soup is an amazing thing that's a hundred times better than just peas themselves. It also is good for this thread because it tastes great and always, 100% of the time looks like a bowl of vomit.

Regarding ham bone as a stock, am I the only person who makes their own brodo? Just boil up a chicken carcass with old vegetables, boil for an hour or two with some seasoning, remove the solids and you've got the perfect accompaniment for tortellini or ravioli.

Hey, I didn't say anything about the quality of it. I haven't had it in a while, mind you, but I remember liking creamed corn a lot back when I was a kid. I'd probably hate the same canned stuff now, mind you, but I'm sure having good and properly made kind would still be pretty good.

Ham hocks an beans are one of my absolute favorite eats. Not runny like soup, but thicker. Add cornbread on the side, and it's perfect.

Yeah, nth-ing the Underwood Chicken spread thing. I love it. It used to be next to it's big brother, Deviled Ham in our local Dollar Store, but for some reason they stopped carrying it. I haven't checked for it in Walmart yet. Slather that stuff on toast, add a little garlic powder, and mayonnaise, and you have an artery busting combination that can't be beat.

So, back in the day, there was a stall down at my local shopping centre. It was around for years and years, and when it eventually shut down I wished I'd taken a photo for this thread, as it totally deserved it.

Turns out I did, and just totally forgot about it, until today. So, here you go.
