Yeah, I'm at the end but I've kind of barrelled through all the Onimichi stuff so the Akiyama stuff in Kamurocho feels like ages ago. Really hope he pops up in Nukuza when that comes out, hopefully after reestablishing Sky Finance.

You can tiger drop dudes when they're about to shoot and I always interpreted it as just that, you need to be in close range though of course.

Kiwami picks up after Chapter 3, right? I felt pretty underpowered through that whole sequence and didn't really have anywhere to gain EXP before that because the city is blocked off in Chapter 2

Kiwami has some frustrating design decisions but it's still good overall. Just make sure you get the extreme heat mode moves for each style that allow you to keep bosses from healing themselves.

It's good as bosses use their healing at least twice, and extreme heat moves also lose damage when you use them more than once

I let Nishiki heal every time because I didn't have the Dragon kiwami move.

Is Majima Everywhere just a Kiwami thing? That wasn't in the original was it? I ask just because so much of it has reference to Y0, and his moveset is 1:1 with it. I couldn't find that with a quick search.

Yes it was added in Kiwami.

Oh wow. Playing 0 really made the deaths of Reina and Shinji more impactful than I remember when I originally played 1. I just remember a vague sense of “Nishikiyama is a dick. Reina was kinda delusional to think it could ever work out romantically.” Now it takes on a whole new meaning because of what we saw in the previous game.

Edit: This is a Kiwami spoiler

I kinda wish I knew that in some regard 0 was my entry into the series so I did Shinji's quest and all I remembered of him was "he hates yakuza I think?"

Saw people saying it was the same Shinji as the one in Kiwami and I just can't recall anything about him in 0 despite liking him in Kiwami. That said though, it really shocked me when Reina wound up dead. "She was so important in 0! noooo :smith:"

i was told my old av was distracting
I have Yakuza 0, Kiwami, 3, 4, and 5. I bought 3 and 4 when I was like "I'll give this a shot I heard it's good" and saw them on sale somewhere. I played like half of 4 and got derailed by losing my save. I played some of 5. I played Yakuza 0 beginning to end with no other games in that time, and mostly the same for Kiwami, which I just beat about 2 hours ago. I am now seriously hooked on this stuff, and mostly it's because of the story and characters.

So here's my question- Given I really really wanna dive right back into it, but I don't have Yakuza 2 (or a functioning PS2 anymore) and Yakuza Kiwami 2 is months away, would the story suffer enough jumping to 3 that I will regret it?

Nah, there's a comprehensive cutscene/story recap of 1-2 at the start of 3. Some of the cool moments will feel less cool because you're watching them but it'll likely be better experiencing them in Kiwami 2 later.

I really hate the way things ended up for her. She was a really good support character for Kiryu and Nishiki in 0. It’s been so long since I played the original games that I didn’t make the connection and when I did it was definitely an “Oh poo poo!” moment for me.

Yeah, the characters themselves being super into the sidequests really helps me enjoy them.

I defeated Club Mars yesterday and can't decide if I want to do more story as Majima or just keep doing Cabaret Club and side stuff. It's a little different than Kiryu's real estate stuff because I could use the collection time to go do sidequests (and other stuff) but there's technically zero downtime for Cabaret Club so it feels inefficient when I do stuff between managing even though I know I need to do sidequests/send out agents/cultivate friendships.

I ended up finishing both Real Estate and Caberet Club all in one big push near the end of the game. The fighting styles you get for it are so worth it IMO.

I think the troops you have available are based on leaders. They all have icons corresponding to troop types on their card somewhere.

Grenadiers are poo poo, though, they’re always knocking down all my dudes with friendly fire.

You keep entering and exiting buildings/loading screens. That's it.
I know each Majima Subtype actually corresponds to specific locations too, e.g. Bat Majima always spawns at the children's park next to the Pocket Circuit building, so make sure you're farming the right encounter.

Like the other answer said, each leader in your strike team grants access to 1 or 2 troop types. If you have multiple leaders for a troop type they become 1 point cheaper for each one.

But grenade guys are of dubious value because they knock down enemy leaders, which makes them invincible until they stand up, so mostly they just make fights take longer.

For me he spawned after I entered and exited the beef bowl place near the millennium tower. I had to do a little loop in a circle for the guys outside to trigger their "hey, I want to bash in your face" spiel but it worked after 3 tries.

Looking at a map I thought I was in the right spot for it but apparently there are two beef bowl shop locations and the knife encounter is by the other one :ughh: Thanks!

Thanks. I'm surprised i don't have someone who gives me grenadiers. I was hoping they wouldn't friendly fire because the enemies don't seem to. Amon's rocket launcher is pretty hilarious, though. I always send him out first and fire it immediately before sending out anyone else now. It took me a while to figure out why Majima and Joe kept dying when i ran through everyone's heat action.
