He'd leave during football season but he was also the biggest draw of all time and legitimately drew each time he came back until 2000. He wasn't taking credit for some influx of indie guys, at worst he was taking credit for fans not watching football anymore, except actually drawing people. And it's not like he'd do it every year either.

He definitely loses more matches for someone in his position than you would expect. There's no argument for it being good for him though since they are long past that sort of thing doing any good. I'm going to play Pillars of Eternity 2 on May 8th

Mr Russo, I'm not sure if anyone has explained this to you, but key props or 'McGuffins' are only effective when the characters and plot treat them as important, regardless of their intrinsic value. By doing so, the prop GAINS intrinsic value and can be used to bring a supporting character into the spotlight.
