Anyway, the sad thing about the recent talks of peace and disarmament is that negotiations regarding the chronic, deliberate humanitarian crisis in NK have been nonexistent. Un was never planning on actually launching a nuke at the US, regardless of whether he had the capability. That would spell the immediate end of his regime and he and the rest of the world knew that. The very real problem that *should* be on the table with NK is the fact that it's the world's largest concentration camp. At the very least, people should be permitted to leave the country if they so choose. Then we can discuss luxuries such as "food" and "abolition of multi-generational criminal sentences".

talking about that poo poo publicly has been the fastest way to get a kim to have a public temper tantrum and leave the negotiating table since the beginning of their cracker jack regime, which is only helpful to sarcastic posters on dead gay comedy forums. as such they've stopped doing it because you can't get anywhere talking about it.

We know they have nukes and that their program made good strides in the last decade. True, their mountain fell apart, but they also have warheads already—possibly not warheads small enough to put on missiles that can hit the US, and their missiles are unreliable, but they definitely have the capability to hit the South or Japan. Basically,

I mean I get why the subject is avoided from a stone cold practical point of view. I'm just saying it's pretty sad that we've resigned the argument like this, and I've been rolling my eyes hard at the recent news reports cheering on the negotiations as something we should all be super happy about. An entire country's population is imprisoned for the sake of enriching one murderous fat guy and the rest of the world is now busting open the champagne because he temporarily stopped making obviously empty threats.

A nuclear test site is just a hole in the ground. A horizontal shaft is probably easier to excavate. Have look at the photos of the Nevada test site. Subsidence craters one after another in close proximity. The media got hook, line and sinker by Un. He never needed to hit the US. Seoul would been enough and the threat of a nuclear land mine in an event of an invasion is plenty deterrent in itself.

No way Seoul would want US troops out of the DMZ, those guys are their security guarantee that the US would have their back. Nuclear explosions have a very different signature from a poo poo ton of explosives much like earthquake have a unique signature they can work out a lot of information from like yield.

Is there any definitive proof that they've ever actually detonated a nuclear device? As far as I know, the only evidence the rest of the world has is the seismic impact, which as you said could be achieved with ridiculous amounts of traditional explosives. I've never seen reports of radiation indicating a nuclear fission explosion.

They will normally not place those sorts of issues on the table for negotiation. It looks super bad for North Korea to even acknowledge them - unlike the nukes/missiles that allow for both threats demonstrating strength in the ramp-up and magnanimous sounding conciliatory (but hollow) offers in the ramp-down. If you talk about having massive political prison camps it makes you sound awful regardless of promises to totally stop that. Makes you look even worse when you don't actually go through with said promises and inevitably pull out of the agreements - even if you say it was totally the other guy's fault.

Even if it somehow did end up on the table it would damage the regime to actually change those things - especially at the behest of outside powers. You'd have a better chance at getting actual change on nukes (which won't happen) than the methods they use to exert control internally.

Gaza's population is under 2 million. NK's is over 25 million. So no, Gaza isn't the largest.

For what it's worth, I don't support Israel's treatment of Palestine, and all those other countries you mentioned are terrible too. NK is still much worse, though. Not really sure what your point was with this, unless you were just mocking DnD; it's hard to tell sometimes.

From what I gather, there's still a poo poo load of racial unity/pride among Koreans, and the majority of SK'ers will have some kind of blood relation to someone in NK. The North might be in a crazy spot right now, but they're still family.

Their cultures have diverged significantly. Hell, even the language has diverged. In the minds of Koreans, though, they're still one people. A Korean from an opposing army is still closer than a white guy on a base defending your rear end from that Korean.
