My best friend from high school loves them but acknowledges that they’re terrible. I guess if you just love breakdowns so much that it doesn’t matter if they’re actually well executed, it makes sense.

I enjoy the occasional Emmure song in my training playlist but I enjoy it while remarking how bad it is

The new PWD however have nothing to enjoy and are just a tragedy to behold. Oh well, Horizons, Deep Blue and Atlas are still my friend. :)

I love Emmure while simultaneously acknowledging that they're pretty terrible. They have a few tracks like We Were Just Kids/MDMA/etc. that are different from their standard fare that are actually worth listening to IMO.

Also for anyone else who likes The Ghost Inside it seems like they've been slowly gearing up lately, posting more things online and practicing as a band once again.

Emmure sucks but it's fun to get sucked into the fantasy world Frankie develops for what their band represents. Shortly after, I realize how ridiculous I'm being and regret my choice and try to forget about it. Kinda like waking up the next day after doing too much blow.

The Ghost Inside sucks and also not fun to even pretend to like or anything else. They're just bad.

New Ingested came out today. it's not -core but it's good

As someone who has always been sorta "meh" on TGI (I've listened to Dear Youth and Get What You Give a handful of times, but was never blown away), I can confirm that Siren Song loving crushes.

If you haven't seen em live before, that might make a big difference. Of course that's been a sad impossibility the last 2 years, but when (if?) they start playing live shows again, definitely do not miss it. Since they're coming off a long hiatus the shows are gonna be extra insane, but even before that, they put on one of the best live acts I'd ever seen. Nothing quite like seeing half the audience crowd up on stage to sing the ending to Engine 45 at a smallish venue. When they come back it's gonna be unreal.

First time I ever got to scream into a mic at a show was during Provoke :unsmith:

This reminds me a lot of Frontierer (although I would say Frontierer is better, not that this is bad).

Edit: oh lol, no wonder. Went to Frontierer's FB page, and they had linked Sectioned, said it's "4/5ths our other band" heh.

I couldn't help myself and I listened to as much of the new Parkway record as I could bear and lmao, they don't belong in this thread ever again. They're nu metal. Good golly they took a steep dive. Not a breakdown on the entire tape. I expect they'll be touring with Five Finger Death Punch and All that Remains.

Winston recently agreed in an interview that they have “outgrown” metalcore, so no, they don’t. I also failed to slog all the way through their new one today. Boy does that poo poo suck rear end. Best of luck to them in finding a new audience cuz it’s pretty fuckin hard to believe many of their old fans will stick around for this.

Why Parkway, Why. Time to put on Horizons and pretend I didn't just listen to that. Guess we'll try again in 2021.

Everyone's probably going to disagree with me but I think the new Parkway album is Good. I didn't really like the new sound when I first listened to the new singles a few weeks ago, but I kept them on a short playlist during my commute to work and I've come around. I've listened to the full album a couple of times and it's certainly a departure from metalcore and there's an element of that Avenged Sevenfold generic anthem poo poo to some of the songs (The Void). I liked the new voice/sound Winston uses, especially in Wishing Wells and The Colour of Leaving but less so in Shadow Boxing. Guitar and drums still sound sick as hell and distinctly Parkway.

Horizons and Deep Blue are two of the best albums I've ever loving heard and I'm not going to get that period of Parkway back, but I don't feel like it's fair to hold that against Reverence. It's not my favorite and it's far from perfect but I expect that I'll be listening to this album a lot.

Tim Whatley

The Void sounds like a Ratt song, but I do hope I come around on the album.

Someone brought up noted MAGAcore artists All That Remains and FFDP and holy poo poo I didn't realize how far off the deep end they actually went. They literally have a song called Got Your Six lmao. They're like DaShareZone the Band.

I'll never forget coming across Parkway Drive about 11 years ago and not being initially interested in their music. Then they played on some tour that come through America about a year or so later, and there we still like two or three bands left to play but holy poo poo did the entire venue transform when they came on. Never saw anything like it and I immediately devoured all their music. Some of my favorite live concerts were with PWD, but the last two or three times I've had a chance to see them I passed up because I knew they'd play their newer stuff and honestly it just doesn't appeal to me. Super depressing. At this point I just pretend they broke up and there's a new band with the same name playing totally different music.

Henchman of Santa

I had kind of written Harm's Way off after seeing them live and checking out Rust (it was the most recent album at the time), but having listened to Isolation, Blinded and the new one recently they're actually really good in the small doses that beatdown necessitates.

SchwarzeKrieg
Apr 15, 2009
Probably not a popular opinion in the metalcore thread, but: I don't get the Parkway Drive thing because I've always thought their -core aspects were the weakest part of their music and that they would be an absolute AAA metal band if they dropped the breakdowns and focused on riffs and songwriting. Instead they dropped the riffs AND the breakdowns and decided to make mediocre buttrock.
