Hilariously busted. Has it been discussed that the name "Arena Commander" makes no sense? I get that its Arena + Wing Commander but holy poo poo they didn't put ANY effort into that. An arena doesn't really have a commander, usually you have different sides. It'd be like "Arena Team Commander" or something. And thats if the arena even has teams. I know I'm being pedantic but, its kinda dumb isn't it?

Hav posted:Yeah, but something as _exclusive_ as the Pathfinder edition? That tells all the hoi-palloi that you had $5 of expendable income at the right time, and that you're the most fervent of all backers. That had $5 and poor impulse control. Looking forward to stealing some guy's ships with fully loaded armories of all the special guns. If the game ever, you know, becomes an actual game instead of a procedural egg in the face of a highly detailed male model asset.

And instead of high heels they wear high-rudders. Sailor suits, of course. Oh! I've seen those before. Some of them are actually kind of funny. The weird part about some of those is that the guys who do them usually have a hideous amount of skill and they look really good. I think I saw like a bunch of anime girl world leaders and stuff and that was kind of funny too.

Kazan’s problem is that if he’s so awesome in real life why does he spend so much time begging for respect on Reddit (and getting completely owned most of the time). The way he shifts the personal attributes (professional tech wizard, super intelligence, wealthy elite) he thinks will cow people and make them accept his viewpoints is so drat insecure. It’s like he doesn’t get the difference between actually being charismatic and just going up to people and saying “I’m charismatic”.

The salaries for CIG in Europe have been very consistent in the £44.5k average, this includes ER NI. That has worked out at between ~$73k and ~$56k per employee as the exchange rates have varied over the years. You can also spot where the direct costs of the motion capture shoot are because of the cost ratio between employee salaries and other gross costs. There may be an extra $1-2m for reshoots in 2016 but it's less conclusive.

The Titanic posted:The weird part about some of those is that the guys who do them usually have a hideous amount of skill and they look really good. Well, yes, the companies that make those games commission the art to skilled, popular artists, and give them some guidelines about what to do. Then they pay them some peanuts (unless they are already top-level artists, like the guys who design the Fire Emblem characters) in exchange for notoriety. And most of the JP games are somewhat "classy" (for anime standards) because that's how Japanese nerds like their official waifus to be. Then you have the Chinese knockoffs which are way more T&A. Pretty often you see some artists tweet about using the money they earned to try and roll the characters they designed. So hey! Free art! What I'm saying is that there is still no SC Connie-chan or Carrack-Tan which means that nobody around those places gives a poo poo about star citizen.

We know that they negotiated with the BFI and UK Govt, who assisted in ensuring that it qualified for UK tax credits. We can eliminate the other UK companies and be pretty certain they were paid for by Foundry 42 Ltd. We know when they would have been paid and we know there was a bump in costs in that period.

DapperDon posted:Yeah, I still don't get it. From my understanding of things, Derek was just another backer that spends a decent chunk of change on new and upcoming games like SOTA and the like. How does buying a different game bring him into CIG's good graces? I'm not in the industry so I have no real idea how any of it may be connected. But I do understand industry schmeg. Derek's said much the same to me, which is why I underlined the _backer theory_ to really underline that it's a back theory. I've never bought the 'Oh, it just irritates me so much' reasoning behind it, because Derek treats the whole thing _very personally_. He's not what you'd call an _equal opportunity_ hater. No, the upshot is that the approach worked with Alganon - Shuffle into the money, slag off the developers, move into development and eventually run the thing into the ground, so he was looking for the next vehicle to pay the bills. One of the most delicious ironies was that although the 'what about your games' defense is loving weak, Derek doesn't like delivering to deadlines and hates it when people ask pointed questions. poo poo, dude. Can't do anything about German drivers because you don't speak German? I'm actually being vague because although this is all background and you can go look for it yourself, I don't want to give backers or Space Crabs more loving ammunition to bang on about some guy who is actually fairly tangental to the train wreck d'jour. Chuck me a direct message and I'll expound further, but I like Derek and feel that some people are quite unfair towards him. big nipples big life posted:It's almost like the leopard's spots have been visible since the usenet days. Some of us are amazed our usenet ramblings still exist, but this is very much the point. There's a lot more nuance between 'angel' and 'dick', and everyone sits between those poles. DapperDon posted:Perhaps you should go and re-arrange your deck flair and jpeg collections if you need to go micromanage something this much. That was mean. Theory-crafting is what we do here, and it's worth going over the assumptions just to see if there are any insights to be gained. DapperDon posted:I love how the Expanse deals with that very thing. They're really handwaving the recoil that thing should generate, but they've had to do a bunch of license for the TV over the books.

Where space warfare needs to be performed at knifing distance instead of say, millions and millions of light years away with well placed masses or laser ware fare from distances you can't even see the other attacker's in. The sad part is that long-ranged cross-instanced combat between capital ships could have been really cool. There was an opportunity to make some really interesting and unique gameplay, with combat being really strategic and long-term as you try to balance dodging with shooting your capital-class weapons across hundreds or millions of kilometers.

I have heard it said multiple times that creative Game Development is an art form. As someone that does the creative and has built an entire reputation for it, I understand what this means exactly. There are blockers, there are setbacks, and sometimes you just stare at a gantt chart for hours as your eyes glaze over because it just isn't there today. Hard deadlines with anything dealing with creation and expression hardly ever work with hard deadlines. But on the other hand, when you DO deliver, it had better be amazing. Mediocre Prima Donnas never last long in any industry. Hav posted:Chuck me a direct message and I'll expound further, but I like Derek and feel that some people are quite unfair towards him. Look at me now, I'm a game dev too!
