Definitely fair enough, and a standard that should apply for both sides, whether they're for it or against.

i sometimes forget to be grateful for a father whose worst trait is being kind of annoying, rather than being a murderer.

It's probably healthier for your brain to acknowledge something good he does rather than go "at least he isn't x" because that's how people get mental illness.

It's not good for you to look at people worse off and compare yourself in the same way that it's not good to look at people better off and compare yourself, particularly if you're looking for something to be grateful about. e: also "at least my father didn't murder my mother" is setting a pretty loving low bar for their behaviour JBP fucked around with this message at 07:32 on May 11, 2018 |

Just found myself looking at a few comments threads on various news articles on FB while waiting for a noisey child to go back to sleep. We're probably hosed. I know these things are populated by the loud and opinionated, and might not represent the majority; but this country full of uneducated, pigheaded Hard Knocks idiots is going to keep putting the Liberals in power until there's nothing left. Unless we address the structural damage caused by a sustained assault against public education by both major parties, people are going to keep voting against their interests, because Sunrise or Today Tonight ran a fear peice about a thing, and now they're feeling personally attacked by feminism/Islam/the poor. Ugh.

Meanwhile in Queensland...:quote:A Brisbane councillor has been chosen over a current Turnbull government assistant minister to stand in a west Brisbane seat at the next federal election. The punchline? They got Prentice the same way. It seems the LNP can't find anyone outside the Brisbane City Council to run for seats. And this new boy is hilarious: quote:“There will be a very clear choice for voters, the LNP that manages the economy responsibly for the benefit of all Australians, or Labor – who wants to impose higher taxes, and take more income from the pensioners and self-funded retirees who live in this community," he said. I'm sure he'll do just fine.
