I realized that with the number of Fire Warriors I'm running I can fit a third Battalion instead of the Vanguard I've been using, I just had to include a second Commander (Buffmander, naturally, to make the Riptide even more sickeningly good) to make the HQs fit. Do you guys think 18 CP is enough?

I enjoy painting, my real bottleneck is just money. I've pretty much finished my LotD and I've got my inceptor leader + the torsos and heads of the other two inceptors finished, its just that I need to buy the other guys before I can, you know, paint them. When shieldwolf finishes and ships their sisters I'l have 20 models to chew through, and I'l have a sister and eversor from Heresylab when that ships.

quote:Praise, hatred, envy Thank you everyone I roll my eyes at a lot of internet communities discussing 40K because sometimes it seems like no one is having fun with the hobby. That's nuts to me. I've spent literally my entire life waiting until I had the money and free time to do this, and now that I'm doing it it's everything I ever hoped it would be. I love every aspect of this bottomless money sink - I love building, painting, playing, getting hyped for new releases, poring over rulebooks with a fine-tooth comb, reading terrible novels, and of course casual smashups and beerhammer with friends. Everything about this big dumb hobby is fantastic. If there's a thing to know about how I came as far as I did, as fast as I did, it's a habit I learned from teaching myself digital art: A spectacular failure is a way better educational experience than a boring success. I make it my business to continuously try new things as often as possible. I ruin a model here and there, and often fall way short of what I'm aiming for, but the sheer churn of new techniques I go through means I'm constantly improving. Oh, and on a productive note, I've got my next two projects planned: First Project: Dark Eldar I've done a lot of nice, neat spacemen recently, and even the Death Guard were pretty uniform, so my goal with these guys is to get tribal and unique. I'm going to be using the same black/bone with red-orange colour scheme I used with my Craftworld guys - really thinking of them as the same unified force. But my learning objective is to go back to pushing my freehand, especially with respect to battle damage and tribal markings. I want to get my head around tattoos and gang signs and stuff, make them look way more rough and wild than the Wraiths. Second Project: Rogue Trader Rogue Trader is gonna be a thing, and I'm going to be all over that thing. My priority with these guys is going to be doing crazy converted vehicles; probably running them as Guard unless RTs turn out to be a full real army. I'm particularly thinking of mashing up Sigmar Khadron Overlord bits with Van Saars and AdMech to create a really distinctive and brightly coloured mechanical nightmare force. My goal is to aim for Weird 40K, stepping as far away from the standard Imperial aesthetic as a Rogue Trader can get away with. These things all feed into the Forever Goal of Orks. The great ambition is to do the greatest Ork army ever, so I want to be as ready as I can for when that day comes.

I'll assume I'm in the minority here but I generally don't like the look of the knights. That shell looks really dumb to me, and I don't really get the appeal of AdTitanicus if it's all just a bunch of hunchbacked knights of various sizes squaring off. Do they have plans to add tiny 40k units like Epic used to have?

TheBigAristotle posted:Would it not be 8 to get within 1"? No. When you deep strike you have to be over 9" away. 9.01" - 8" = 1.01" therefore you're more than an inch away. There's not any current announcements about expanding to an Epic-style game but I think the idea is that they're testing the waters for that and we'll see in due course if they go for it. TheBigAristotle posted:Would it not be 8 to get within 1"? You have to come in 'more than 9' away', which means 9.0001, which with a 1' threat range you need a 9 on the dice to make the charge. It's spelled out clearly in a FAQ. Corrode posted:This is awesome. In particular I want to do a RT vehicle that looks like a Protoss Colossus, using the Dunecrawler legs for the base and some combination of Khadron Overlord/Eldar bits for the big smooth oval head bit.

This could be what SW:A appear to have been for Necromunda, which is to say a mini-test game to put out feelers on models and gameplay. If it fails, it’s still a standalone boxed game.

So one of the reveals at Warhammer Fest, via Tiny Plastic Spaceman, is that FW is releasing a book that allows their Custodes and Sisters of Silence units to be used in 40k. Have fun with that guys. Also Dreadnought drop pods. It even comes with pre-drilled holes for magnets in the doors. I'm seeing a bunch of stuff that I just want. The Titanicus looks really good. Boxed game in August, Reavers in September and Warhounds in October/November is apparently the schedule. Sisters are great and doing a character/display figure to keep the hype train going is a great move. Even looks like Age of Sigmar is going to get better and suck less. The ghost army is looking good to me. And all in plastic, which I appreciate as I sit here slogging through 4 Warlord Games Rebel Ghar weapon teams for Antares, which I'm pinning at 6 different points because of the weight of material and small points of contact.

I don't have any Epic scale titans (though I have used battlemechs for knights before since they're the same size) but I've got a good bit of 6mm guard. 2 companies of guardsmen, a russ company, storm troopers in valkyries, shadowsword, thunderbolts, plus various 6mm vehicles from other manufacturers I use for griffons, basilisks, hydras and the like. chutche2 fucked around with this message at 14:36 on May 12, 2018 |
