sh3 looks so god drat good it could pass for a ps3 game at times I think.

sh2 has the most hard hitting and best story but it's probably super dated and hard to play now. still looks amazing by PS2 standards. the lighting/fog effects are so drat good.

I love Dark Souls 3 but Bloodborne is far from janky. The game is built around fast combat and DS3 suffers from trying to port that to the souls universo where shields and heavy armor exist, also no dodging and rally. I'd say that BB is more polished and focused than DS3.

yeah maybe jank is the wrong word, i don't mean mechanically cause yeah agreed gameplay actually works better for the reason you gave, totally agreed DS3 feels like it could really use lifesteal for one.
I think progression and knowing what you're meant to be doing or where to go is more bewildering though whereas its generally pretty easy to work out in DS3.
BB's DLC absolutely tramples DS3's in terms of quality too.

Mainly though I love DS3 cause I could boost my friends through it and I ended up with my whole friends group playing basically the entire game with ease (ease of connecting to eachother at least, certain bosses are harder in coop because of the health mulitplier, especially the DLC bosses who get loving crazy)

The problem with revisiting horror games is a lot of them are kind of intentionally clunky to add to a feeling of helplessness. That’s fine, but going back to what was considered clunky 15 years ago is like trying to run a marathon using cinderblocks for shoes.

also there are a lot more fun builds in DS3 than in BB and more gear, though BB has the best weapons, they're just few and far between and mostly found at the end of the game

I still haven’t beaten Bloodborne but I always think about the way the combat feels and how it is so deeply integrated in the themes of the game. You are an agile quick thinking human fighting violent monsters and humans. And it FEELS like that exactly. It’s nasty and vicious. It’s brutal, violent, and doesn’t let you relax. The game’s combat doesn’t feel flashy or fancy in a way a lot of games feel. It’s so wonderfully unique with how it handles all of it.

Both Bloodborne and DS3 were by far the most frustrating experiences I had when it came to co-op in the Souls series. Bloodborne generally has weirder mechanics (including summoning a friend as an enemy by accident because your covenants oppose). Dark Souls 3 was endlessly frustrating to me personally because if I tried to summon and I lost connection to a single person (not the network or the server, there were no notifications of such) I literally could not summon for several minutes, with co-op/invader fog walls persisting after the summon was lost.

Even nowadays during my Scholar replay of 2 I have a lot more ease of use, though the actual quantity of people is smaller than when I was playing 3 and its DLCs during their prime time. I can drop a small soapstone and reliably be summoned in. Even with Soul Memory 2 has been pretty consistently the easiest time I've had with From's network, though I can see 3 being potentially better for co-op if my experience was unique.

Using the PS2 with a good video scaler (such as the XRGB-mini, which is what I have) on an OLED TV is apparently really nice as well, because OLED has those deep black levels you just can't get on an LCD.

After playing Bloodborne I cannot get into Souls anymore the same way because theres no transform button.

Even something like Holy Moonlight Greatsword is much cooler in Bloodborne because the way melee combat and animations work.

The sound design in Silent Hill 2 in general is phenomenal. The openining walk up to the town, I kept thinking I was hearing a second set of footsteps, but they weren't there when I stopped to listen, and I didn't hear any abrupt change to their noise levels, so I was genuinely doubtful as to whether I'd imagined it or not.

Ps4 needs a 1080p 60fps sonic all stars racing: transformed port. I played the gently caress out of that on pc but I think it ran at 30fps on consoles and why would you ever play a high speed racing game at anything but 60!

Theres a big open area in the prison where it sounds like a horse or something is running around the edges of the space, just out of sight, as you approach a gallows. That really hosed me up and I had to pause the game and go and talk to my dad in the sunlight.

Oh I have! That game made me shriek on many occasions. (I had to stop halfway because I was not enjoying using a controller to play it on my PS4 and would rather play it with a mouse and keyboard).

The enemies in games I have the most trouble with are small enemies. I have a phobia of slugs, so anything small and sluglike or just small and skittish can induce a lot of panic in me.

I will shriek at headcrabs (especially the poison spider ones) the duke nukem wriggly green squishies, the face huggers in AvP, the worms in System Shock II and the Mimics in Prey. Goodness these guys get me more than any other!

I know. I thought it nailed that sense of isolation early on and it has the most bonkers story of the series. Not just that, but it mostly succeeded in standing apart from the other games in terms of atmosphere and story but still being recognizably Silent Hill. It was super dreamlike and the protagonist is just some guy in the wrong place at the wrong time. But drat it's like an instruction manual for how not to design a game - tedious inventory management, escort missions, re-using levels, persistent and unkillable enemies. Such a shame because had it been more successful, the series probably would have looked very different after 4.

The cutscenes run at 60 fps instead of the PC and Xbox versions' 30, but that's the case regardless of the monitor.
