I'm going to echo the others about how bad rear end your work and projects are! You're certainly a mad man!

Only one thing I want to point out, don't run those Bosch 2000 CNG injectors. Their flow varies wildly with temperature and I've heard nothing but bad things about tuning them.

Thanks mafoose! I decided to scrap the CNG injectors and go with ID1700's - *once I can get a solid answer from a fellow 20b owner. I did not want the race gas I'm planning to run chewing up the internals of the CNG's.

What gas are you running?
I really like ID injectors. I've tuned a few cars with them and I love how stable they are down to 1ms or so. 1300cc injectors on a 1.8l Honda? No problem.

I know the stainless innards are great with alcohol fuels, but with the right filters and frequent use, I've yet to have any issues with e85 on other injectors. The problem with the CNG injectors is flow changes drastically with temperature.

I'm lucky enough to have a VP station in my super small town which stocks C16 and non-e. That's interesting about the CNG injectors- I've worked with the older style, but not the newer EV14. Your observance might also explain the issue a friend of mine had where his engine leaned out on a cold morning. This was after a weekend of hot dyno pulls. Rotaries are interesting though with the two states of injection and the secondaries end up being mainly firehoses. I'm planning on running ID's fuel filter- just need to decide if I want 6 injectors or 9. Really comes down to HP goals and with my current turbo, 900 seems to be the sweet spot.

*Edit- just a quick calculation:

Secondary injectors-
3x 1700 = ~950WHP on Gasoline with ~650lph worth of fuel pumps.
or
6x 1700 = 1100WHP on E85 with 1000lph worth of fuel pumps.

I'm going to probably cheap out and just put 3x 1700 in for now and get the project going. I can always add injectors and pumps later.

Is it really that hard to find nonETH in most places these days? Pretty much every newer Quiktrip in the southeast has it for "nontaxable" stuff like lawnmowers, watercraft (they really really hate the corn gas) etc.
Even though I've replaced all the lines I'd never put ethanol in my e30.

Gotta admit, I'm gonna miss them when I move... DFW is the only market they have in TX. Delicious hot dogs that are pretty much always fresh, pretty decent pizzas, and Top Tier fuel. :smith:

Except RT's hot dogs have usually been sitting on the roller grill all day, the buns are usually stale, and they don't treat their employees nearly as well (in pay, benefits, and many other ways - QT pays drat good).

IIRC, Atlanta is QT's second largest market, just barely behind DFW (wikipedia says DFW has 135 stores, ATL has 134, no clue how up to date that is though).

I haven't seen QT shutter any stores here, but Racetrac has been closing a lot of older stores, and also remodeling a lot of stores (in some cases, just keeping one wall of the building standing, I guess so they can still call it a "remodel" instead of "demo and rebuild"). In one case, they're building a new store directly across the street from one of their oldest DFW stores. I've had friends that worked for both chains though, and QT by far pays better overall (and tends to hire people with management tracks in mind, instead of just a warm body handling a register).

Shell is generally one of the most expensive here, except for the one down the street from me (they're generally 5c/gal cheaper for regular than the 7-11 and EZ-Mart down the road - I don't pay attention to premium/V-Power since my car doesn't need it).

In areas where QT is established here, you can't drive more than a mile without passing one (or a Racetrac). Both seem to shy away from areas where they can't cram in at least 16 pumps, though. QT was keeping up to date pricing/availability of fuel at local stations via their mobile app after Hurricane Harvey rolled through, which made it a lot easier to find gas (it was difficult to find it without prices being jacked up to $4+/gallon, in some cases, $8/gallon, in the 2-3 weeks following Steve Harvey's appearance). We weren't directly impacted by the hurricane, but people were panicking and filling up everything they could afterwards. :argh:

Also my favorite bit about QT in Phoenix is that one of the first ones built - maybe even the first one built? - is closer to Circle K's regional HQ than the nearest actual Circle K is. I would've put a map here but it looks like that QT (Warner / Hardy) closed down. That's the only one I've seen close down altogether. They did buy a property adjacent to one of their locations in north Tempe, then flattened the QT and rebuilt it to be about 3x the size across both lots. Was closed for something like three months.

I've never seen non-taxed gas in SC (diesel yes, its red-dyed and deemed off-road use only) but non-ethanol is really common.

I've tried it in most everything and never could tell much difference. Sometimes I wonder how old the fuel is, it's not used nearly as quickly and how good is their QA? My whiteblock Volvos didn't like it at all. I don't even bother with it for my lawnmower, but it doesn't sit much. Started buying trufuel for the 2-stroke stuff though.... That stuff is the truth.

Holy crap that's a lot of fuel! Do the primaries stay on when the secondary injectors are firing? C16 is very forgiving, but locally it's like $9 a gallon. E85 is almost as forgiving, other than the money spent on the fuel system, but that's $2.50 a gallon locally.

My Supra gets 13mpg on E85, and 19mpg on gas, but all we have at most pumps is crappy 91 that doesn't cut it on a turbo car with 110° days.

There are bulk wire sellers on eBay that sell much smaller quantities than waytek, both GXL and TXL, and made in the USA. I usually message them to get a custom amount and colors for my harnesses. I also use kapton tape to bundle the harness (leaves no residue), and when I'm happy with the fit, I'll dismantle the connectors and slide in the heat shrink or techflex (depending on what the customer wants). I use the same style butt splices you do with double wall adhesive lined heat shrink after the crimps. I've recently been turned onto open barrel butt splices. They take up way less room, I'm going to give them a shot on this harness I'll be building for a 1JZ mk3 Supra.

Our gas here is complete garbage, ethanol or not. It's cheaper for me to go to a hotrod shop to buy race fuel than to buy it at one of the few stations that carry it. That's why I've swapped all of my turbo cars to e85. I'll be doing my dad's 76 turbo 280z next.

The primaries+ secondaries fire above 3800rpm in the older FC's and similar in the FD- the aftermarket ECU allows me to change this, but the general answer is yes. It's a massive amount of fuel. Sizing for ethanol gets tricky and pre-mixing gets even tricker. The wrong premix with ethanol will gum up the insides of a rotary quick, resulting in a loss of compression. Maybe once I can convince myself I can fit 3 fuel pumps *somewhere* I will give it a shot.

I've been mainly using these non-insulated butt connections with adhesive 3x heat shrink.

Since *spoiler* Rob has committed me to building 4 of these 20b cars, I figure the extra up front with waytek should cover all these projects. But drat is it easy to drop $350 on an order. I'm just about to order my fuse/relay holders for the fuel pumps and coil packs. I originally wanted to reuse factory wiring/relays, but bussman makes it super easy to add a small 3 relay/10 fuse box.

Never knew that about rotaries and e85! That sounds scary, especially at high power levels.

Yea, I have hundreds of those molex splices, they're really handy. Mouser carries them as well, and they don't have a minimum order like Waytek.

Oh I'm interested as well. In my HVAC career I always had to just crimp those connectors with long nose needle pliers and if in doubt solder them. I think back in the day I looked at some proper brand name crimp system for those pain connectors and they were 200+ and I just went lol, not spending the cash to buy the most expensive crimper for the cheapest crimp joint when I'm not using it every day anyway.

Also have to add the spyder you do awesome work keeping the old rotaries going, I'm kind of thankful people like you are around and envious I couldn't have a place to do it here - also pissed off at people that dump cars there and don't pay you or pick them up, no idea about US law where you could recover work and storage costs or just keep the car etc.

I have been pretty terrible about making time to update this thread. I think for the sake of progress I will not try to back-update everything that has happened. A few months back I decided I needed to move on from my now-previous job. I saved money, loaded up projects, and started clearing out junk wherever possible. I planned to take three months off, work on cars, help some friends/family with projects, and reassess what I wanted to do. We saved enough for up to 6 months without any major asset liquidation. This has probably been the most serious I have about stepping away from the corp world. I put in my notice and just a day later I was asked to interview with another firm. I had not even started looking! The timing could not have worked out better. I ran the interview team through the ringer and after carful consideration I accepted the job. But for my metal healths sake I took a month break between the two. I've only got two weeks left, but I can't wait to join their team. It's been a whirlwind of planned and unplanned projects. But no one cares about this. Let's talk about the 20b.

Rob's been itching to get a final subframe out of me and my chassis has been at the body shop for 4 months. The LSX car owner was nice enough to let me borrow his. I spent a few days last week wrapping up the subframe. It's amazing. It fits better then any mockup I made AND has room for PS/AC. I rebuilt the steering rack mounts and was able to retain the factory linkage. The stock sway-bar mounts fit. Everything I was concerned about has been resolved. Even the speed sensor on the trans clears the tunnel. I even built a quick trans brace using the stock crossmember. I am stuck to a front mount, but at this point it's a street car and that's better for the intended purpose. I am thankful the LSX owner let me use his straight chassis. It allowed me to adjust the engine so it will now fit in a stock chassis without major hammer love to the firewall. So win-win for everyone.
