The wallet that made that donation tossed money into two dozen mostly awful ICOs...and EOS. It now holds 1.5 million dollars worth of EOS.

HTC is launching a blockchain-powered phone I'm still not even sure what that actually means (it's probably still "powered" by a battery, like every other dang phone in existence), and apparently it's not even the first one that'll come out, but it appears people will be able to spend a good chunk of fiat money on a special funcoins funtimes phone.

Someone in Congress needs to find out about this poo poo and start making noise. Who gives a gently caress if a bunch of morons who wanted to get rich quick lose their money. This is far more important to society in general. At some point it's going to start severely effecting everyone as energy prices go up and Joe Grandma can't afford to run her AC because Bozo McAssholebutt needs to run his mining farm.

The power consumption is the exact opposite of being the demise of Bitcoin. It is exactly what makes it work. You need to exhibit the needed work to earn Bitcoins as the reward. If the price of the reward goes up, the difficulty will go up. We can say that if the price goes up then we are looking at mass adoption. If that is the case then Bitcoin will save the world a million ways over. if the reward goes down then people will drop out. This is the same with gold. Mining in the future will be done on satellites through solar power in outer space. Mining will be so competitive from a standpoint of creating ASIC's that you won't be able to afford any electricity at all to stay competitive, it will have to be free renewable electricity. I have gotten nervous about this in the past. Its all part of the process. If it was easy to mine Bitcoin anyone would do it.
